Montana Senator Forces Marine Veteran Out of Capitol Hill for Protesting Against War
Marine veteran Brian McGinnis was dragged outside of Capitol Hill by Senator Tim Sheehy and Capitol Police. The altercation allegedly broke his arm.
“America does not want to fight this war for Israel,” McGinnis, a senatorial candidate for North Carolina from the Green Party, interrupted during a hearing. He was immediately grabbed by Capitol Police. “No one wants to fight for Israel,” McGinnis shouted as he was being restrained by three Capitol Police officers and Sheehy away from the room.
McGinnis hooked his arm on the doorframe. Another door kept the ex-marine’s hand in place as the Capitol Police pulled in the opposite direction. Then, a crunch resounded from the audio. Several bystanders were alarmed, and they were caught on record expressing concern over McGinnis’ hand. Others assumed that McGinnis’ hand was broken after hearing the sound, accusing Sheehy of being responsible for the incident.
Sheehy would remark, “Sir, thank you for your service.” The Montana senator was attempting to remove McGinnis’ hand, which was still lodged between the door and the frame. “Capitol Police were attempting to remove an unhinged protestor from the Armed Services hearing,” said Sheehy on X. “This gentleman came to the Capitol looking for a confrontation, and he got one,” he added, explaining that he only helped to ‘de-escalate’ the situation.
“I hope he gets the help he needs without causing further violence,” Sheehy added. Capitol Police also released a statement. They described McGinnis as “an unruly man who started to illegally protest during a hearing put everyone in a dangerous position by violently resisting and fighting our officer’s attempts to remove him from the room.”
Is McGinnis’ arm broken?
It’s uncertain if McGinnis’ arm has been broken. For now, this is merely speculation from bystanders who were present on the scene. Nevertheless, social media saw various angles of the video. One user writes on X, “You occasionally get a moment that symbolizes everything wrong with this country. In this case it’s a U.S. Marine veteran screaming out that no one wants to fight for Israel and a U.S. Senator breaking his arm.”
