Our “tough guy” Moyo doesn’t have his horns yet, but that doesn’t stop him practicing his charge! #baby rhino pic.twitter.com/Fsjytp7VSk

St. Louis Zoo’s newest rhino baby, born just a little less than a month ago (May 17th to be exact), is already practicing his ferocious charge.
The little guy’s name is Moyo, (pronounced MOY-oh), which means “heart” in Swahili, and is currently not in public view. He’s one of 60 Eastern black rhinos in 26 AZA institutions, a species that is critically endangered because of illegal poaching.
The zoo reports that he’s “very active and the zookeepers provide him with a variety of toys and enrichment throughout the day” as play is “how they learn the skills they will need as adults.” Moyo is also nursing well and bonding with his mother right now.
You can keep up with Moyo’s adventures on St. Louis Zoo’s social media. Here he is at one week, old getting weighed and receiving adorable back scratches!
