Marjorie Taylor Greene is going back to her roots. She is excitedly announcing the passing of a bill criminalising gender-affirming care for minors

United States Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene might be opposing Donald Trump on multiple fronts now, but recent events prove that she is still the same problematic individual that conservative and MAGA supporters have grown to love over the years (I definitely don’t mean this as a compliment).

On December 18, 2025, Marjorie Taylor Greene uploaded a video on X (formerly Twitter), announcing that her Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which “criminilizes gender affirming care” for minors, had passed the House and was awaiting a vote in the Senate. Greene also called out the names of the three Democrats who had sided with her on the Act and four Republicans who opposed it.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Protect Children’s Innocence Act has faced significant scrutiny in recent months. While some individuals believe the bill is essential for “protecting” children, others argue that Greene’s motivations behind the bill stem from her extreme transphobia. Personally, I align with those who view Greene as transphobic. Although she may not openly acknowledge it, she has consistently demonstrated her belief in a binary understanding of sex and gender, dubbing anything outside of that as “unnatural.” For example, in 2021, she displayed a sign outside her office stating “There are only two genders: Male & Female,” and placed it directly across from Representative Marie Newman’s office, who has a transgender daughter. Additionally, Greene has frequently expressed her belief that transgender women should not use women’s restrooms. In fact, somewhere around late 2024 and early 2025, she was one of at least two Republicans (the other being Nancy Mace) who opposed Representative Sarah McBride’s use of a women’s restroom after her election to Congress.

McBride has not forgotten the mental anguish she endured due to Greene and other Republicans and is rightly voicing her opposition to Greene’s transphobic bill. While on the steps of Capitol Hill, McBride spoke out against the opposition’s obsession with trans individuals in a heartfelt and personal address, emphasising the harmful nature of Greene’s bill. A portion of her speech included the following:

I get that it’s hard to understand this care and understand the need for it. But one of the things that gets so lost in this conversation is that the transgender adults of today were kids once. I was a kid once. I didn’t have the courage to come out until I was 21. But it’s a fact I have known about myself for my entire life. I didn’t have the courage to come out until I was 21, and that means 21 years of pain, 21 years of unwavering homesickness that only went away when I was able to get the care that I needed. And my biggest regret in life is that I never had a childhood without that pain.”
