Man guesses woman’s weight. He’s off by more than 20 pounds. Now women are revealing what they actually weigh. It’s eye-opening

They say you should never ask a woman what they weigh, but it looks like men are taking things one step further by not only estimating women’s weight—but also getting it completely wrong.

TikTok user Kate Lav (@katelav__) discussed the phenomenon in a clip which has amassed 287,200 views.

“So I can’t find the comment, but I made a video about how men can’t guess your weight and some guy guessed that I was 150 pounds (Ha!)” she explained. “And this guy commented, being like, ‘Anything above 130 pounds is unacceptable.’ But […] I haven’t weighed myself in so long. The last time I weighed myself, I was 200 [pounds]. “

“And it got me thinking […] like a lot of women are so afraid of talking about their weight,” she added. “I completely get that. And I was thinking about it because my weight fluctuates a lot, because at the end of the day, I’m literally human. But when I do gain weight, I really don’t think about it as gaining weight. I think about it as enhancing juiciness. And if you’re mad about that, I don’t know what to tell you.”

Commenters shared similar experiences

Based on the comments, it became clear that men have a track record of making outlandish guesses about women’s weight. “My ex said, ‘As long as you don’t go above 150,'” one recounted. “I was 200.”

“I heard one yesterday that a guy said ‘ bet you’re triple digits,’ and it’s like…. Y-yes, I hope so if they’re an adult,” a second quipped.

While a third added, “I am literally 235, but I’m short, so literally no man guesses anything over 175 for me.”

“I’m 310 and a weightlifter, and when I went to donate blood, the guy did a double take and said, ‘No way you’re over 180,'” a fourth shared.

And a fifth wrote, “I was 180 at 5’3 a guy I was talking to guessed I was 120… spoiler alert I did not look even CLOSE to 120.”

Why do men guess women’s weight wrong?

This phenomenon has also been discussed over on Reddit. In a post entitled ‘Why are men so bad at guessing weight?’ one Redditor wrote, “So I know weight is the ‘taboo’ topic, but it never stops a man from looking at me and telling me I must be ‘110lbs soaking wet’… I’m pushing close to 150lb.”

They later added, “I’m not the only person who this happens to! It’s like the second they see any woman who isn’t clearly ‘overweight'(sorry if that sounds bad but I can’t think of how to reword it) then they must only weigh about 100lbs.”

In response, another Reddit user theorized, “Men have no idea how much muscle, bone density, large breasts and a thick [expletive], contribute to the number on the scale. Plus athletic people have heavier bones because of bone remodeling. So they won’t have any idea at all.”

“Men always guess that I weigh much less than I do as well,” a second agreed. “I don’t think they realize where/how women’s bodies carry weight differently than theirs do.”

However, a man on the Reddit thread also shared some insight.

“If asked, I never tell a woman the real weight I think she is,” he admitted. “I will shave 20-80, even 100 lbs off depending on how large they are. I used to be a first responder so we had to lift people all the time so I may be more aware of how much women weigh but even when we had to know I would say I would have never guessed…… That might be part of why some of us are so bad at guessing weight…….”
