‘Why would you do this?’: Woman gets bath bomb from Lush. Uh, why does it look like that?

Adding a Lush bath bomb to your bath after a long day should be a relaxing way to unwind. The colorful water warms your skin and your soul, while the fragrances calm your senses, melting away your stress and enveloping you in serenity. For one woman, her Lush bath bomb created trouble in paradise.
What the kelp was wrong with this woman’s Lush bath bomb?
In an eight-second video, TikTok creator @dempseysmomm sits in her tub, filming vibrant blue bathwater dancing. However, hordes of small, stringy, wormlike floaties are joining the chorus, submerged in the bathwater. When she tilts the camera to the side of the tub, she provides a closer look at two slimy green lines. Horrified, the content creator calls out the cosmetics company in the text overlay, “Why would you do this, Lush?”
What did viewers say?
The clip attracted a whopping 11.7million views, cracking joking comparisons in the comments section.
“I thought those were tapeworms,” the top comment with over 196k likes remarked.
“Feels like taking a bath in a petri dish,” another quipped
“The seasonal string bean bath bomb,” a third joked.
However, this was not new, as evidenced by others’ experiences.
“I got a lush bath bomb with Pop rocks or something in it to ‘pop’ in the water,” one commenter recalled. “I didn’t know so I thought my bathtub was cracking with the weight of the water and that I was going to fall through the floor!”
“My lush bath bomb had GLITTER. I had to pick it out my hair for weeks and I still can’t get it out of tiny spots of the bathroom till this day,” a second shared.
How did she notice the floaties?
Since @dempseysmomm’s original clip went massively viral, she decided to clarify a few things in a follow-up video.
“First off, I’m not really gunning for Lush by any means. I have nothing against them,” she said. “This bath bomb just wasn’t for me, apparently.” Despite this, she enjoyed the fragrance. “I loved the smell. That’s why I bought,” she said.
This raised the question: what did the content creator notice in the bathtub? “I neglected to realize that there was seaweed inside the bath bomb,” she explained. “At irst, [I] thought they were worms cause I was taking a bath in the dark. I had a candle and a night light.”
When @dempseysmomm sank into her bathtub, she felt something off in the water. “I couldn’t quite see what was in the water but I felt it touching me and turned on my flash,” she recalled. “It is seaweed. This stuff was super slimy.”
Unfortunately for the content creator, none of the employees warned her about the seaweed surprise.
“I talked to two people at Lush while I was there,” she shared. “Both people I told that I got the Big Blue bath bomb and neither of them said anything about it.” In addition, the description was unhelpful. “I read the little chalkboard next to each and every bath bomb that said what it had,” @dempseysmomm revealed. “I did not see where it specified it has giant pieces of fresh seaweed.”
Is seaweed in Big Blue ingredients?
Indeed, the bath bomb is designed to evoke a day at the beach. The company lists Kombu Seaweed on its website as a natural ingredient in Big Blue to soften skin. Not only that, but it also contains Seaweed Absolute, a natural aroma derived from the marine plant and algae themselves.
