‘The Vampire Lestat’ Is Going to Be a Lot for Louis: “Very, Very Heartbreaking”

Louis de Pointe du Lac got to tell his story in Interview With the Vampire. But now, with the aptly renamed third season being The Vampire Lestat, he’s in for a rude awakening. Or, as the saying goes, the second side of the story.

Named after the book which tells Lestat de Lioncourt’s (Sam Reid) side of the story. Meaning that the more “villainous” moments with Lestat may be painted in a new light. But that means that Louis may not have the best time with it. According to showrunner Rolin Jones, Louis’ story in season 3 is going to be “very, very heartbreaking.”

Jones spoke with Entertainment Weekly to tease the upcoming season and explained how this season will be compared to the previous two seasons. “It’s a very different season,” Jones says. “You can’t really tell another origin story — so many of the beats are shared beats that we’ve already done with Louis — so it’s been a thrilling, exciting challenge so far. What I can tell you after seeing all the footage, and this says nothing about all the wonderful performances that are in seasons 1 and 2, it’s an absolutely iconic season of television [for Reid]. You’re really not prepared. Nobody is.”

Rockstar Lestat will be a gift to us all, though

One of the joys of The Vampire Lestat is going to be Lestat in his rock era for me. Throughout the first two seasons, his love of music has led to some of his more unhinged moments in Louis’ story. Like when he used a man playing jazz to his advantage to act foolishly. He’s theatrical! He was with all the theatre vampires in Paris, after all.

So if Louis is suffering, that means that I don’t think Lestat is going to hold back with his music and rockstar life. We’ve seen the two going through some kind of therapy or divorce court together but what does that mean for their relationship throughout the show? Is Louis going to be there at Lestat’s show?

We’ll have to wait and see but at least we know we’ll be in pain…right?
