Failed Documentarian Matt Walsh Doesn’t Think Stephen Colbert’s Lord of the Rings Is a “Good Idea”

Stephen Colbert is making a new The Lord of the Rings movie. So of course, Matt Walsh and The Daily Wire think it’s a patently terrible idea. On social media, the conservative commentator couldn’t help but toss out a take about a new LOTR project. Walsh argued, “This might in fact be the worst idea anyone has ever had in history.”

Now, unfortunately we have to point out that there have been a lot of bad ideas throughout history. Some of them have come from Walsh himself, and that has to come into consideration too. But, Colbert has found himself at odds with some of the conservative thought that The Daily Wire and other publications spew constantly.

The host probably thinks that Colbert is poised to make The Lord of the Rings woke somehow. This is an interesting line of thinking because the fellowship and multiple other characters strive to take down forces who discriminate and divide the people of Middle Earth a lot over the course of this particular franchise. And, the late night show host says that the scope of this story is what drew him in to begin with.

“I thought, ‘Oh wait, maybe that could be its own story that could fit into the larger story,'” Colbert said in a video with Peter Jackson. “‘Could we make something that was completely faithful to the books while also being completely faithful to the movies that you guys had already made?'”

According to the same video, Colbert argues that his film will handle six chapters of that larger story. Everything from “Three is company” through “Fog on the Barrow-downs” in The Fellowship of the Ring is on deck. Notably, That’s not what Walsh is taking issue with. Instead, he’s focusing on the star’s political leanings instead of the actual text of the story. It’s a trap that a lot of theater goers fall into, especially when they’re entering into a conversation in bad faith

Despite these misgivings, production on the Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past continues unabated. Colbert has clearly given some thought to not only the story but this world at large. While a lot of “nerd-alligned” individuals like Walsh lay claim to LOTR. There are tons of fans who do not stand for the same things. While the Daily Wire publisher thinks that this is a bad idea, it’s not really up to him. Warner Bros. has made Lord of the Rings a massive priority moving forward. Getting a well-liked member of Hollywood to help bring it to life is a prospect that studio leader David Zaslav would salivate over.

Here’s what Warner Bros. says about the upcoming film: “Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo – Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began.”
