Locksmith refuses to work under a female Chick-fil-A owner and calls her husband: ‘He went from a confident contractor to Windows 95 error screen’

Perfect turn of events.

Locksmith learns a lesson after he refused to believe a woman could be the owner of Chick-fil-A.

We often assume that in 2026, the image of a “boss” has finally evolved past a suit and a tie. But one female Chick-fil-A owner’s viral encounter proves that old-school biases are still alive and well.

Shelita Jaclyn (@operatorinchief), a Chick-fil-A franchise owner, is taking TikTok by storm after sharing a “Windows 95 error” moment with a contractor. And it all happened simply because the contractor couldn’t process her authority.

The video has amassed over 5.1 million views and it’s well deserved. Her story is a masterclass in holding your ground while a vendor tries to “shhh” you in your own building. It’s a powerful reminder that while you can’t control someone’s assumptions, you certainly don’t have to fund them.

The locksmith demanded to speak to a man upon arriving at the Chick-fil-A

The situation began when Shelita’s husband, who works for her as the facilities and maintenance manager, called a locksmith to change the restaurant’s locks. When the locksmith arrived, Shelita came out of the kitchen to authorize the work. To her surprise, the contractor refused to begin.

Despite her introducing herself as the owner, he insisted on getting “the okay” from the man he had spoken to on the phone. He apparently told her, “No ma’am, I need you to go get the owner so I can make sure it is okay with him.” The nerve…

Her husband corrected the confused contractor immediately

Refusing to accept Shelita’s word, the locksmith actually put his finger in her face to silence her. He countered her, saying, “The person I talked to on the phone was a man.” But Shelita immediately replied, “That’s amazing and irrelevant. Two things can be true.”

Even then, the locksmith called her husband to “confirm.” Obviously, the call did not go as he expected. Shelita’s husband immediately corrected the locksmith and told him, “Sir, that’s not my restaurant. That’s my wife’s restaurant. Is she not there?”

The locksmith was left in stunned silence and hung up. This when Shelita remarks that “he went from confident contractor to Windows 95 error screen.”

Shelita politely sent the locksmith out of her Chick-fil-A

Once the locksmith realized his mistake, he tried to pivot back to working with Shelita. He finally asked her, “All right, ma’am, I can get the okay from you?” To which, Shelita delivered the ultimate boss shutdown, “You could, but you won’t.”

Without wasting a breath, Shelita told him that she would be paying someone else to fix the locks of her Chick-fil-A. Her message was clear: it is significantly cheaper to show respect than it is to lose a contract because of a bruised ego.

Patriarchal thinking still lingers in the workforce

Despite women making up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, the “male-as-default” leader bias remains a persistent hurdle. Statistics show that women now own over 40% of all businesses in the United States. Yet, they still face significant skepticism in male-dominated trades like construction and maintenance.

This patriarchal “glitch” often leads to situations like Shelita’s. People question a woman’s expertise or ownership is simply because a man initiated the first contact. Breaking these systemic biases requires more than just success. It requires the kind of direct accountability Shelita demonstrated in her lobby.

How to handle professional disrespect as a woman

If you find yourself in a situation where your authority is being diminished, follow Shelita’s lead. Don’t shrink or over-explain. State your role clearly and once. Remember, you are the client. If a service provider refuses to respect your position, you have every right to take your business elsewhere. Don’t spend energy trying to “convince” someone of your identity.

And if you happen to have a boss woman in your family, take a cue from Shelita’s husband. Stand up for them and condemn the behaviour if needed. Shelita’s story is a reminder that you were born a boss, regardless of who is holding the clipboard. Whether you are a student, a teacher, or a franchise owner, your value is non-negotiable.
