‘I will be getting Jersey Mike’s from now on’: Woman tries to get refund for her Jimmy John’s. Then a manager steps in

A TikTok content creator placed a Jimmy John’s order for a spicy Italian sandwich. When she realized she received the wrong sandwich, she requested a refund, only to be talked down to by an employee for trying to get her money back.
In a video with more than 20,000 views posted on Oct. 24, @carmawowie explained how poor the customer service at her local Jimmy John’s location was. “I’m obviously really disappointed… I see that sandwich, so I’m upset,” she told her audience.
Her Jimmy John’s order—a difficult experience for no reason
@carmawowie was excited to get her Jimmy John’s order. But when she got back to her dorm room to eat it, she discovered a completely different order inside her bag.
The meal was a splurge for @carmawowie, who lives on a tight college budget. The sandwich she ended up receiving was completely different than what she wanted, appearing to have completely different ingredients like turkey. For that reason, she called the establishment to request a refund.
When she did, she immediately noticed that the employee had an incredibly irate tone. This was the start of an escalating situation where the employee continually ignored her requests and made fun of her for even requesting her money back to begin with.

When @carmawowie requested a refund, the employee almost immediately refused. Instead, he offered her in-store credit, which wasn’t her preferred outcome.
“I told him the situation. He’s like, ‘OK, well you must have robbed the wrong order…. I [tried to explain] to him, [but he said], ‘I don’t refund. This is [your] fault.’ He basically tells me my only options [were] credit or something else.”
@carmawowie tried to explain to the employee that someone at the store handed her her order. She couldn’t have “robbed” someone’s sandwich, considering that information. But they did not listen to her.
He then told her that she could get a refund, but she would have to wait “two to three hours” for him to find the order and process it.
The college student immediately noticed that the Jimmy John’s employee was lying about the refund process, as she had worked similar jobs previously. It shouldn’t, based on her experience, take two hours to search for her order.
Other evidence supports this, with some Jimmy John’s employees saying it takes “five seconds” to void an order the same day, or 15-30 minutes on a different day, according to online forums.
She was able to give him exact details regarding when she placed the order and what she was expecting, so the employee realistically should have been able to identify her receipt number.
She asked him if there was any way for her to get the refund, as he then continued insisting that she get store credit if she wanted it to go faster. The employee then sarcastically replied, “If the $10 sandwich really means that much to you, I’ll sit here and take two to three hours outta my day to get that refund.”
By that point, the employee was allegedly “making fun” of her for wanting the $10. No matter what she told him, he refused to accommodate, saying it would take “hours” to find her receipt number and the order she placed.

The call ended without resolution, as @carmawowie went to search for her receipt number to give to the employee.
She called again within minutes to provide the receipt number, and the employee still gave her “attitude” about the issue. He proceeded to process her refund and let her know it would take 30 minutes to arrive in her account.
But the refund never appeared in her account. “I don’t really know what to do, [as] I want that refund. I want that $10.90 back.”
Based on commenters’ experiences with Jimmy John’s, this isn’t even a one-off issue with a particularly grumpy worker.
“Unfortunately, this is on-brand for Jimmy John’s,” said one commenter. They then described a terrible circumstance where they ordered from the sandwich shop where the company refused to give a refund, even after the customer didn’t receive multiple items inside their meal.
They received the wrong sandwich with no drink or chips despite ordering a meal from the sandwich shop. “I ended up just filing a chargeback on my card,” said that customer. “I figured if this is how they treat their customers, I don’t feel bad about getting the (wrong) sandwich for free. This isn’t even the first run-in I’ve had with a JJ, just the most recent.”
Some have also noticed Jimmy John’s sandwiches getting smaller over time, with customers feeling progressively unhappier with what they get for $10.
Others explained that refunds don’t go through for three days, but @carmawowie did not post any update indicating she ever received any refund.
