Jack Schlossberg Is Right About the JFK Jr. Show. It Is About His Uncle, After All

Television’s Ryan Murphy is taking heat from Jack Schlossberg, John F. Kennedy Jr.’s nephew, over the 2026 FX series Love Story. Schlossberg believes that the series’ portrayal of his uncle is inaccurate and that Murphy is profiting off a legacy he misunderstands.

“The guy knows nothing about what he’s talking about, and he’s making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else’s life,” Schlossberg said of Murphy in an interview. The series is created by Connor Hines but Murphy serves as an executive producer.

Schlossberg adds that Love Story is fictional, although some sources list the drama as ‘biographical.’ “Maybe he would donate some of that money to the JFK Library to help keep President Kennedy’s memory alive, but he’s not. He’s making money. This is not a documentary,” Schlossberg urges Murphy to donate to “causes John championed throughout his life.”

Mythologizing the Kennedy Family

Schlossberg also took hits at President Donald Trump and his first cousin once removed, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in his interview. When talking about the amount of fictional stories about the Kennedy family, Schlossberg gave his insight into the reasoning behind that.

“I think in the last year, two years, or three years, partly because of RFK Jr. but also partly because Donald Trump has used JFK as sort of a human punching bag, both by renaming the Kennedy Center after himself, by doing a false reinvestigation into the assassination and dismantling all the programs that he fought for, there’s a lot of misinformation now and iconography being used about the Kennedy family, my family, at a time when we really can’t afford to confuse people.”

Schlossberg adds that if Murphy cared about the Kennedy family and JFK Jr., “maybe he would try to do something about getting Trump out of power.”

Sometime in 2025, the Trump administration was fixated upon declassifying the JFK files. The files recall the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. Although JFK Jr.’s political aspirations were cut short, his father, JFK, was known to advocate strongly for civil rights. Most significantly, JFK established USAID in 1961—a program now defunded by the Trump administration.

This wouldn’t be the first time Murphy would be criticized for his portrayals of deceased people in his films. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a series about American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, also faced backlash from victims’ families. The victims’ families accused Murphy of profiteering off their trauma without consulting them about the matter.
