Is ‘The Bear’ Coming to an End? Season 5 May Be the Last Shift

It’s long been rumored that FX’s The Bear would end with season five, and it looks like we just got our confirmation that our favorite chefs have only a few dinner services left with us before the doors close for good this time.

Guest star Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Donna Berzatto, recently posted a photo of herself and Abby Elliott (who plays Natalie ‘Sugar’ Berzatto) from the set of season five. In her caption, Curtis appeared to break the news of the show’s ending, leaving fans talking about whether it was intentional or not.

“FINISHED STRONG!” she wrote on Instagram. “Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with. Got to finish it out with my baby Berzatto bear.”

In a new interview with Access Hollywood, a reporter told Curtis, “People think you were confirming the show is ending.” Curtis responded with: “But everybody’s confirmed the show is ending. I don’t understand why that’s such a [big deal]. Unless I’m gonna get a call from all the people saying, ‘You just told [everyone],’ I think everybody understood that it was the last season of the show. If it isn’t, then I’ve completely blown it.”

Curtis also confirmed that the show was coming to a close when speaking with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday: “It is the end of the show,” she said. “Everybody knows it’s the end of the show. I’m not breaking any news to anybody. It’s the end of the show—they’ve said it from the beginning.”

FX has so far declined to comment, but sources have told Deadline that the comedy drama will end with the fifth season, which is currently filming in and around Chicago.

The news isn’t really much of a shock

At the end of season four, Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto (played by Jeremy Allen White) says to Syd (played by Ayo Edebiri), and Richie (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) that he’s leaving the restaurant and signing over his stake. That leaves the restaurant’s fate up in the air and marks a natural ending point for the show. White has also previously said that creator Christopher Storer’s original idea was to end the show after season four.

The Bear also stars Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson, with Oliver Platt and Molly Gordon in recurring roles.
