“All right, I just got back from my Hooters orientation,” she says while sitting in her car. “Basically, we just talked, went over all the stuff. Did some online training.”

When she reaches over the passenger seat, she pulls out a brown paper bag she received from onboarding. “But I just got a little goodie bag and I start on Friday,” she explains.

Then the content creator opens the bag and unveils each item individually. “You get two pairs of shorts, the pouch, your tights, and three shirts,” she shares. “Pretty simple.”

Afterward, Adams spills the tea on what’s in store. “Everything was really good. It’s pretty chill. I feel like people freak out when you say you want to work at Hooters but it’s really not bad,” she says. “I have Friday, Saturday, Sunday of training. I’m doing the later shifts  and I’m thrown to the wolves after three days of training.”

Overall, she is looking forward to her new endeavor. “I’m a little nervous but I think it’ll be fine,” the content creator says.

A Deeper Dive

Adams told The Mary Sue snagged the job almost immediately.

“I applied 5 days prior and called on a Monday to check my application and they told me to come in that day for an interview and got hired on the spot!” she shared.

Because of a beloved memory, it inspired her to apply.

“I have a memory as a kid where my grandpa (who has now passed away) told me when walking by a hooters that one day I’d work there,” she recalled. “I’m assuming he meant it as a joke but it almost makes me feel closer to him now that I have a job at Hooters.”

For a very long time, it has always appealed to the content creator

“I’ve always known about Hooters and have always thought the girls were so cool and always wanted to be a famous Hooters Girl,” she said.

Needless to say, Adams brimmed with enthusiasm about her new job.

“I’m so so excited for the opportunities to come with being a Hooters girl and making new friends as I’ve just moved to the area that I’ll be working in,” she shared. “I’m extremely excited to be working here and wouldn’t ask for anything else! I think it’s important to understand that it’s truly an empowering position.”

What Did Viewers Say?

Adams’ video racked up over 135,000 views, where former employees imparted pieces of advice.

“I worked at Hooters 20 years ago and the advice I have is, size up your pantyhose two sizes and bring clear nail polish to stop the runs in them. Also, dawn soap and soda water asap on the wings sauce will take it out of your uniform every time,” one viewer suggested.

“I was a GM there for 10 years. Just learn the menu. You will do good,” another recommended.

Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of male viewers knew how well she would do based on her appearance.

“pretty girl. you should do great,” one commenter said.

“Congrats! you’d look good in the vette!” a second stated.

“For REAL you belong there. Girl you’re gorgeous and absolutely perfect,” a third wrote.

How Does Hooters Hire Its Servers?

Men don’t just visit Hooters for the food but rather for the eye candy. The brand is built entirely on appealing to the male gaze. Hooters Girls must entertain customers while wearing tight-fitting uniforms that accentuate their ‘assets.’ After all, its name is a metaphor that customers playfully refer to as a ‘breastaurant.’

With that being said, women don’t need experience as a server to become a Hooters Girl. Instead, all you need to do is fit a specific appearance. “We look for the All-American Cheerleader / Surfer-Girl-Next-Door image to fill our restaurants. In other words…Very bubbly, outgoing personalities!” per their website.

What’s It Like Working There?

Most applicants are drawn to restaurants because of handsome tips and flexible schedules. Hooters isn’t an exception. However, it can be a difficult job. Constant pressure on maintaining a certain image, coupled with being men’s ‘personal cheerleaders,’ and tolerating unwanted sexual advances can take a toll on the women’s mental health.

On the other hand, this isn’t one-size-fits-all. Yahoo reported on how working there, there were women who enjoyed the job, built connections with co-workers that turned into friendships, and the people they interacted with. Like any job, experience is based on the individual and the customers they encounter.
