Los Angeles woman goes to Home Depot. She’s not the only woman suddenly flocking there to buy this Husky staple: ‘Don’t mind if I do’

Arguably, the best thing for any retailer these days is for one of its products to go viral online. If a TikTok girlie with a sizable audience reviews your product favorably, her followers will inevitably flock in droves to get said object for themselves.
This very phenomenon appears to be unfolding as we speak, with, of all things, a light from Home Depot.
Thanks to an Instagram story and then a subsequent viral TikTok video from two separate makeup artists, makeup aficionados everywhere are checking out this unique find from the world’s biggest home improvement store.
From Instagram story to viral sensation
It all started when luxury makeup artist Evelyn McCullough (@evilyn_mua on Instagram) posted an Instagram story in late January raving about the Husky LED Rechargeable Detachable Tripod Work Light from Home Depot.
“Who knew you could find a makeup ring light at @homedepot?” McCullough wrote on her Instagram story with a laughing emoji. “I paid $25 bucks.”
In another slide on her story, McCullough tagged Home Depot again, asking if they have an affiliate program, as she’s “had all of her makeup artists purchase this Husky ‘makeup ring’ light.”
That’s when the word really began to spread. McCullough began to be inundated with notifications of people tagging her in their stories, letting her know she’d influenced them to buy the light for themselves.
Then, the hype reached TikTok.
TikTok goes gaga over Home Depot light
Fellow makeup artist Monique Carrillo (@uniqueemoniquee on TikTok) saw McCullough’s story and was intrigued enough to check out the light for herself. In a video posted on Jan. 22, which has since racked up 1.6 million views and counting, Carrillo documented her quest for the light, literally.
“I ended up coming to the Home Depot because I saw Evelyn M.U.A.,” Carrillo begins in her video. “She uses these lights, so of course I had to come and buy one. ‘Cause first of all, it’s really inexpensive, and it looks like it works so good. A lot of her followers have bought it, so I’m gonna buy one, too.”
Carrillo films herself finding the Husky light, promising to update her followers with a review. Sure enough, soon after her initial video, she posted a follow-up.
“I am finally home and super tired, but let’s get into the Husky rechargeable tripod LED light,” Carrillo begins after a long shift at her day job. “Yes, this one is on the shorter side. It’s only 32 inches … I did see that you guys were mentioning the other Husky light, the three panel one … but honestly I just wanted something compact, cute, and bright, especially for my very tiny business. I just needed something compact to throw in my kit.”
Carrillo walks her viewers through the unboxing process, praising the light’s 360-degree rotation and detachability. She turns off her light to showcase its brightness, satisfied with the three settings to which it can be adjusted.
“Overall, I am very happy with this purchase,” Carrillo finishes. “For 25 bucks before tax, you can’t beat it.”

TikTok virality: The aftermath
After Carrillo’s initial video went viral, McCullough, who is active on her Instagram page but less so on her TikTok account, posted a TikTok video delighting in the TikTok audience’s response to what was initially her Instagram recommendation.
“I’m literally obsessed with you all,” McCullough begins in her narration. “This light just became viral all over TikTok … For those ladies who had tagged me also on the TikTok, thank you! Especially Monique. Girl, you had so many views, so many comments, and thank you for the mention.”
McCullough reiterates her satisfaction with the light in her TikTok video, singing its praises for much of the video.
Most TikTok viewers across both Carrillo’s and McCullough’s comment sections seemed generally excited about an affordable and portable option for a makeup light, but many of Carrillo’s commenters called into question her decision to shop at Home Depot.
Tensions amidst the Home Depot boycott
Multiple commenters left pointed comments on Carrillo’s first video about the ongoing boycott against Home Depot in protest of the company’s silence in the face of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids on its premises. Boycott organizers assert that the retailer “cannot claim to serve our communities while allowing federal agents to terrorize people on their property.” The boycott demands include a formal denunciation of ICE by Home Depot and steps taken to protect customers.
A chorus of viewers wrote variations of, “We don’t support Home Depot” in Carrillo’s comment section. One such commenter questioned her lack of response.
“Ignoring the comments about you supporting Home Depot in the middle of a boycott is wild,” this commenter wrote.
Other commenters pushed back with sentiments like “no one is dictating to me where to spend my $$.”
The Mary Sue has reached out to McCullough, Carrillo, and Home Depot via email to request additional comment.
