‘Ever heard of Belgian Blue?’: Woman matches with guy on Hinge. Then he makes an odd backhanded comment about her back muscles

Dating apps have a way of scrambling your social instincts. That’s what one woman experienced after matching with someone on Hinge.
TikToker Kaith (@keepingupwithkaithlyne) shared a screenshot of the exchange in a post that left viewers unsure whether the message was meant as flattery or as a rude backhanded comment.
In the three-image post, which has garnered over 8.6 million views, she first shows the actual conversation. A man named David had liked one of her photos on Hinge, where her back is visible as she points toward the ocean while wearing a bikini.
“How did you get that back?” David asks.
“Born with it,” she replies.
“Ever heard of Belgian Blue?” he asks.
In the next two images, Kaith shows screenshots of the search results she found after looking up the term “Belgian Blue.”
It’s a Cow
As the name suggests, the Belgian Blue is a breed of cattle that originated in Belgium. The breed is known for an extremely muscular appearance, a trait commonly referred to as “double muscling.”
The cattle were developed after Shorthorn bulls from the U.K. were introduced into Belgian breeding programs, resulting in animals with significantly larger muscle mass than typical cattle, The Cattle Site explains.
An adult Belgian Blue bull can weigh anywhere from 1,100 kilograms (about 2,425 pounds) to 1,250 kilograms (about 2,755 pounds) and stand roughly 1.45 meters (4.7 feet) to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) tall.
Whether the date meant the comment as a genuine compliment or something backhanded is unclear. Messages miss all the physical cues that would normally signal someone’s intention, tone of voice, facial expression, and more.
Without those signals, what ‘David’ may have intended to be playful can easily come across as odd or even insulting.
It seems that viewers of the post were just as unsure.
Commenters Express Confusion
In the comments section, viewers debated whether the message was intended as a compliment or a strange insult.
“In their language this is a compliment,” one person wrote.
Another commenter replied, “In my language, comparing me to a cow is means for physical violence.”
Others believed the man probably meant well, even if the delivery was awkward.
“He probably has these on his vision board lmao,” one viewer joked.
“He definitely meant it in a good way, just was not a very good way to make the connection,” another wrote.
