Grey’s Anatomy Star Returns to Limelight to….Go to Mar-A-Lago?

Recently back in the public eye, Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl has reportedly been spending time at Mar-A-Lago, the palatial home-away-from-home of Donald Trump. According to a X post from Page Six, Heigl has returned to the red carpet after a two-year hiatus, attending a dog rescue event at the Trump-owned property. The internet, naturally, was divided on the issue.
“Oh suddenly I don’t feel bad she was blacklisted,” writes one user, referencing Heigl’s claim that she was ousted from Hollywood’s good graces after a 2008 interview with Vanity Fair. In the interview, she said that the Seth Rogan film Knocked Up, which she starred in, was “a little sexist,” and portrayed women as “shrews, humorless and uptight.”
She also got in hot water for comments she made in a 2009 interview with David Letterman, where she called the 17-hour workday filming conditions on Grey’s Anatomy were “cruel and mean.” One Twitter user was quick to call out the apparent hypocrisy in a post, “weird how someone who made a career off of shining a light on the insane working conditions, sexism, and struggles of being a woman in Hollywood would even consider going to an event that is even tangentially related to Donald Trump.”
Conversatives were quick to come to Heigl’s defense, “she attends a dog rescue event and you leftists are like ‘she’s a horrible person!!’ Freaks,” wrote one user. In response, another of Hiegl’s critics pointed out the obvious: “she attends a dog rescue event at the property of a misogynistic pedophile. One doesn’t negate the other.” In the heat of the debate, the former head of DHS took a stray.
One went for the jugular, writing “Dog rescue event at Mar-A-Lago, who are they rescuing the dogs from, Kristi Noem?” Noem made headlines in 2024 for declaring that she shot her 14-month-old wirehair pointer because she deemed it “untrainable.” Considering Noem’s prominent position in Trump’s inner circle, Hiegl’s decision to attend a dog rescue at the president’s property carries a unique kind of irony.
While some users praised Heigl’s commitment to helping animals, they lamented the ill-thought-out nature of the Mar-a-Lago visit. “She should have read the room, good cause but terrible optics unless she’s proud MAGA,” wrote one user. Others were less sympathetic, with one writing “f*ck her and anyone attending maga-lago for any reason.” But the nail in the coffin came when one user wrote, “Well @KatHeigel didn’t see you as a pedo supporter but here we are.”
Katherine Heigl has shied away from making political statements, declaring herself to be “terrible at politics” and that she “[doesn’t] understand the politics of things.” While Heigl claims that the finer points of political discourse escape her, inadvertently or on purpose, she appears to have chosen a side.
