Thank God they’re actually giving ‘Frankenstein’ a theatrical release

Oscar Isaac as Dr. Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein'

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein has been on all of our radars for quite a while. Remember when Frankenstein’s Monster was supposed to be Andrew Garfield? Because I sure do! But now we’re one step closer to its release, in THEATERS.

Del Toro’s reimagining of the classic Mary Shelley story comes after a longline of adaptations. From stage to television and the big screen alike, the story of man’s determination to create life through science is, unfortunately, a tale as old as time. Or, I suppose, specifically 1816 when Shelley published her novel after writing it at 18 years-old.

The point being that the story of Frankenstein is a beloved one and it has made fans excited to see what del Toro does with it. Especially given his history telling stories in the gothic genre, like his film Crimson Peak. His Frankenstein will star Oscar Isaac as Victor, Jacob Elordi as the Monster, Mia Goth as Elizabeth, and more. But luckily, like many of del Toro’s films, we will get to see Frankenstein on the big screen.

It was announced that Frankenstein will have a theatrical release starting on October 17 and will run until the film begins streaming on Netflix on November 7. Yes, that is less than a month, but it is exciting that the movie will have a chance to be seen in theaters. One of my favorite movie-going experiences of 2024 was seeing Hit Man at the Paris theater in New York but its release was incredibly limited.

We don’t yet know the extent of the film’s release but it is just exciting to know that we can see Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein on the big screen!

So we get to spend the spooky season with Dr. Victor Frankenstein and a new Guillermo del Toro film and that’s special to me.
