Lip balms intend to hydrate lips while adding some shine. In the realm of BeautyTok, there is one in particular brand sweeping people’s algorithm: EADEM, specifically their Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balm.

What Is EADEM?

Launched in 2021, this skincare company’s focus was on developing inclusive products for all skin types. Their Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balm has become the source of virality, despite debuting in 2024. Key ingredients in the vegan lip treatment, like hibiscus enzymes, lactic acid, and pyruvic acid, are designed to nourish lips and give a glossy touch.

It appears to do the job since fans praise it for its soothing, non-sticky texture and luxurious appearance. Even the brand itself boasts about having the best chemists creating its award-winning lip balm.

All of the buzz surrounding this lip treatment is successfully influencing people into rushing to their nearest store to snag it. But popularity doesn’t equal foolproof, as one woman learned, sharing the aftermath of jumping on the EADEM bandwagon.

What Did The EADEM Product Do To This Woman’s Lips?

While sitting in her car, Houston-based TikTok creator Cheray Cashelle (@cheraycashelle) is holding the viral EADEM lip balm container.

“I got Le Chouchou,” she says, opening the box. “Let’s see.”

After she opens it, she slides the lip balm onto her hand. “I better be what I’m getting for or else I’m bringing this back,” she remarks, twisting the top off and lightly squeezing it.

Once the content creator applies it to her lips, she continues to add more all over her lips, visibly pleased. However, don’t let this deceive you.

Essentially, the lip balm failed to deliver. “My lips are now peeling, discolored, and burnt off. Everything I don’t need rn. Life is already hard enough,” she reveals in the caption.

What Did Viewers Think?

Cashelle’s video amassed over 855,000 views, successfully deterring many.

“And just like that i’m deinfluenced,” one viewer commented.

Another echoed, “And just like that i don’t want to try it.”

Because of these types of outcomes, others were sticking to their favorite balms.

“SummerFridays would have neverrrrrrr,” one commenter stated.

“Me and my guava Fresca for life,” a second said.

“Vaseline ain’t ever did me wrong yall gon learn to stop falling for consumerism,” a third remarked.

What Could’ve Caused This?

At some point in your life, you may have felt the urge to put more of your favorite lip treatment on constantly. It’s a vicious cycle of coolness sensation washing over, followed by cracking moments later. But those who are still caught in this never-ending loop need to ditch this bad habit. In fact, it could be damaging to your lips.

When you feel the dryness creeping, this is a symptom of an irritant found in camphor, menthol and alcohol lip balms, according to TODAY. Moreover, products consisting of fragrances, flavoring agents and dyes can trigger allergic contact dermatitis, which exhibits the same reactions. Since the EADEM Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balms contain alcohol, fragrances, flavoring agents and dyes, all of these can be a recipe for withered lips.

Before chasing certain trends, be sure to check the labels.
