‘This is the 10th time’: Woman leaves DoorDash driver $5 tip on porch. Then she proves why their whining is entirely their fault
Tipping has become a customary expectation in the food delivery industry. Once the customer is ready to checkout, they have the option to select the amount they desire. But there are customers who choose to tip the old-fashioned way–in cash. And DoorDash drivers obliviousness to it a stoking the woman’s frustration.
TikTok creator Zyria (@g0rg_ryazi777) paints the picture of the scenario in the text overlay, “Stop saying DoorDashers don’t tip, you don’t look.”
From there, she issues a little public service announcement to fellow delivery drivers. “When DoorDashers [talk] about tips, I want my area to shut up,” she says, annoyed. “Because it never fails.”
Then, she explains her point. “I just picked up my DoorDash and I put in my notes, ‘there is a tip on my porch table,” the content creator shares as she walks outside of her house toward the table. “Did they pick up their tip that I left on the porch table?”
Standing in front of it, she finds her answer. “No, you didn’t,” Zyria says, unveiling a $5 bill tucked in a mason jar. “So, guess what? I’ll gladly put it back in my wallet.”
Apparently, this has become all too common for her. “This is the 10th time. No matter how many times I tell, them they still leave it. Oh well,” Zyria reveals in the caption.
Viewers Resonate with the Same Feelings
Zyria’s video amassed 1.7 million views, where many sided with her, expressing their frustration about DoorDash drivers.
“Just proves they don’t ever read the instructions,” the top comment with over 85,000 likes commented.
“They do not read the notes. I’ve had my order dropped off at the wrong house so many times because they don’t read,” another concurred.
“Easiest job in the world and people still can’t do anything right,” a third remarked.
As a result, some have stopped tipping on the app or altogether.
“I don’t tip until I receive my food. Every time I tip before it’s never 100% correct,” one commenter stated.
“I’m ngl. I don’t tip anymore bc it seemed like they got cocky with that lil $5 tip and they [messed] up the delivery. Now I’m out of $5 and my order messed up,” a second said.
How Do DoorDash Drivers Access Customer Notes?
In a nutshell, everything is accessible at the fingertips of the driver app. This can include the location and the special instructions, which can be reviewed while waiting for the order, according to DoorDash’s website. After you pick up their order, you can review all the information below the customer’s name in the ‘upon arrival’ section. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to contact them.
Why Does DoorDash Ask To Tip At Checkout?
With that being said, there’s a widely known slogan, ‘no tip, no trip’ among delivery drivers on the internet, where they refuse orders without a gratuity. Consequently, DoorDash added a new warning to those who declined to tip on the app in 2023.
Once a customer decides to put zero as the amount, a message that reads, “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue?” will pop up on their screen, according to Today. This gives customers a heads-up that an order without a gratuity will disincentivize drivers from picking it up, which leads to it arriving delayed or cold. While customers can choose to tip in cash, there is still a high chance of rejection if the digital one is low.
