Woman buys pregnancy test at Dollar Tree. Then the worker makes a shocking offer, convinced the result would be positive: ‘I love unprofessionalism’
Taking a pregnancy test can be a cathartic or terrifying experience, depending on one’s expectations going into it. The difference between one or two lines can change a person’s life forever, making it a genuinely life-altering experience. But that also seemingly makes the test a hot commodity for drama. At least it does for one Dollar Tree employee.
TikToker Jahnell Anya (@jahnell.anya) got an unusual request from a worker at her local Dollar Tree after going in for a pregnancy test. The employee was convinced the result would be positive, so much so that she wanted Anya to take the test in-store so she could see the results.
She quite literally led the TikToker to the bathrooms to take the test, something that Anya later posted. Her TikTok video describing the encounter—and the employee’s interest in her pregnancy—has since amassed 8.7 million views.
Why would the Dollar Tree employee want to see the test?
Multiple commenters had guesses as to why a Dollar Tree employee—who doesn’t know Anya or anything about her life—would want the tea on whether or not she was pregnant. The simple answer that many viewers came up with was that the employee was bored at work.
“She literally just wanted to be nosey,” one commenter said. That was also why many commenters thought the Dollar Tree employee provided Anya with a bathroom to take the test in—it was so that she could get the news right at work rather than waiting to see if Anya ever came back.
According to some viewers, Dollar Tree stores typically do not let customers use the bathrooms. They have a strict employee-only policy at locations across the United States. “Mind you they don’t even let customers use the bathrooms at most of them. Also they only have 1-2 cashiers at a time. This was top priority for her I see,” one viewer said.
Was the employee right about her prediction?
Anya mentioned that the employee was “sure” the test would be positive. So, it must have been disappointing when the test came back with one line instead of two.
The TikToker posted a picture of her negative pregnancy test around a day after her post about the Dollar Tree experience. In the TikTok, there appears to be one clear and distinguishable line. Commenters were sure they saw a “faint line,” though. Multiple viewers added that the “faint line” they saw was a sign that Anya was pregnant.
“I can’t lie, i see a faint line,” one viewer said. Anya replied, saying, “Can you stop looking.” Another TikToker said, “Congratulations mama. my ‘faint line’ is now 2 years old. good luck.”
It’s unclear whether Anya has taken additional pregnancy tests since the initial one. But, in the very least, she has not posted them. Anya also hasn’t clarified how the employee reacted to her test, although many commenters joked that she must have been disappointed.
