‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’ took over NYC in a fitting way for the Boss
Bruce Springsteen is beloved by millions and for good reason: He’s the Boss! And the new biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, celebrates one of Springsteen’s most underrate albums: Nebraska.
Jeremy Allen White stars as Bruce Springstreen right at the high of his career when he decided to pivot to a small more intimate album after the success of The River. Springsteen was a household name, people knew him as “The Boss,” but he wanted to do something different and it resulted in a beautifully constructed album of more acoustic songs.
To celebrate the film’s release on October 24, 20th Century Studios staged a concert in Madison Square Park. Fans could go and see a stage set up like Springsteen’s room he wrote Nebraska in with some of his most iconic albums on the wall next to a performer. There were two giant posters of Jeremy Allen White’s Springsteen on the side of the stage.
But the most moving part of the pop-up, which made me cry, was when everyone began singing “Born in the USA.” It started with a man on stage playing but when the lyrics kicked in, a woman stood up and began singing it. Slowly, the band was formed and the “flash mob” nature of the performance was incredibly moving, especially when that saxophone came in.
I have been going to Bruce Springsteen concerts my entire life. He was my first concert and I have seen him more than any other artist. Meaning, I’ve heard “Born in the USA” live plenty of times. But there was something so special about seeing people surrounded in the park, watching as we all celebrated the music of Bruce Springsteen.
I’m very excited for Deliver Me From Nowhere because this is an album that I think deserves more love and, after today, I think everyone is going to feel the same way. Deliver Me From Nowhere is in theaters on October 24.
