Connecticut man refuses a ‘child-free’ wedding invite then sends a strongly worded message: ‘So many people RSVP no to their wedding.’

TikTok user @sprucewoodboys is setting some ground rules for attending weddings that might not be everyone’s preference. Two days ago, Manny Stephen Acevedo shared on his TikTok account that he received an invitation to a wedding from someone he wasn’t very close with. Although he found it a bit unusual to be invited to this person’s wedding despite their distance, what truly made him decline was the fact that the wedding was supposed to be child-free, and Manny didn’t want to leave his kids behind to attend.
Manny refused the invitation to the wedding, but sent the person a gift as a gesture. However, as he highlights in his video, the unthinkable happened: the person who had invited him reached out asking for clarification on his absence, which then upset him, as he believed it was strange for the person to follow up after Manny had clearly stated he wouldn’t attend, especially considering they weren’t very close. After this, the conversation continued with the invitee asking Manny one question after another, eventually leading Manny to completely lose his temper. Continue reading to learn what really caused Manny to snap.
TikTok user @sprucewoodboys called out a wedding invitee
Manny Stephen Acevedo’s TikTok video, in which he discusses receiving a child-free wedding invitation that he rejected, has, as of this writing, garnered over 2 million views. It also has thousands of likes, comments, shares, and saves, demonstrating the video’s popularity among viewers. As previously mentioned, after Manny declined to attend the wedding, he was asked a few follow-up questions about his absence. While he felt uncomfortable during all of those because he believed he didn’t owe anyone an explanation, especially since he wasn’t really friends with the person asking, there was one question in particular that tested his patience, leading him to ultimately snap.
When Manny told the invitee he couldn’t attend the wedding due to the child-free policy, the invitee asked if he could hire a babysitter. Talking about the incident, Manny emphasised that it was more about not wanting to hire a babysitter than being forced to, making it clear that his decision was a matter of choice. Then, he revealed that in a moment of rage, he said things that made him feel like “2008 Manny had come back. ” He said, “I’d rather watch my child shit herself and roll around in it all night than listen to terrible speeches about your love story that I am not connected to, eat awful catered food, and then listen to the D.J. who lived down the hall from us at Seton Hall at Sacred Heart University, who’s still trying to make it big.
TikTok user @sprucewoodboys’s video has gained significant attention online
As previously mentioned, Manny’s TikTok video has garnered traction among the audience. They have taken to the post’s comments section to express their opinions on the matter. User @alley_k wrote, “Had a child free wedding and would recommend most people do the same. That being said, if people can’t attend bc they have kids, that’s that. Move on.” User @blackskin_beauty commented, “I had a child free wedding…but with that being said you don’t owe anyone an explanation, I would’ve just blocked them.”
Many people were baffled by the invitee’s follow-up questions. User @lorrainelowrey wrote, “Her text to you should have been “Sad to hear you will not be able to attend our wedding. We would have loved to have seen you and caught up. Thank you so much for the gift.” That is it.” User @peepeepoopoocheck06 wrote, “i was prepared to disagree with you, but yeah that’s insane. although I don’t think the wedding being childfree was the biggest issue, the biggest issue is arguing about an RSVP, which is super crazy no matter why the person responded no.”
Child-free weddings are on the rise
Having child-free weddings has become quite common these days. According to a December 2023 article in Common Good Magazine, a New York Times piece based on a study by Hilary Sheinbaum reported that of 4,000 couples with wedding dates in 2024, 79.5 per cent preferred kid-free weddings.
The Common Good Magazine article also highlights several other points, such as one of the main reasons why people prefer child-free weddings being the consumption of alcohol. However, the article notes that if a wedding is made child-free because of alcohol, it has less to do with children finding it problematic and more to do with the adults at the party not being able to enjoy themselves fully.
