A Florida woman’s mom gifts her a small, pink Coach purse with cherries, and she wears it out to a restaurant. Then, she sees what it did to her shirt and questions the quality of the designer handbag.

In a video with over 1.2 million views, TikToker Amaia (@amaiapellow) sits across from her sister at an outdoor restaurant. Her sister wears a green shirt with a prominent burgundy stain on the shoulder.

The woman wipes the handle of the Coach bag with a paper napkin, revealing a bright pink, lipstick-like streak coming off the leather. She opens her mouth in disbelief.

Amaia asks if she got it from the outlet, and another person at the table clarifies that they bought it online.

At the end of the clip, she shows the email she recieved from Coach after bringing the issue to its attention. The email instructs her to either bring the bag into the store or mail it for repair. However, it notes that it can’t help with stains or refurbish the leather. The whole process would take up to six weeks.

According to Coach’s website, its bags have a one-year warranty. This covers work done by Coach’s Repair Workshop, which may include stitching or hardware replacement. If the workshop can’t fix what’s wrong with the bag, Coach may refund the customer and return the bag to them.

Why is the Coach bag bleeding onto her shirt?

While Coach collectors report that color transfer is rare, some bags may stain clothing. On the r/Coach subreddit, other fans of the bag brand say they’ve experienced the same issue and share theories on why the color of some rubs off onto other fabrics.

In one post, a woman says a black Coach bag left marks on her white shirt and questions the quality of the bag.

Another writes, “I have a red vintage coach bag that does this too. I never was able to make it stop :/ so I only wear it with black outfits now.”

A poster on the PurseForum platform says, “My dd just told me that her navy/kiwi perforated clutch ruined her white shorts. I have never had a problem though so not sure why that one left a blue stain on her shorts.”

Some suggest that the colored leather may degrade if it gets wet or is exposed to high temperatures. To remedy the issue, some suggest spraying the purse with a bag-safe sealant or wearing dark colors when taking the bag outside.

What do commenters think she should do?

Some viewers of the now-viral TikTok suggest that she double-check the bag for authenticity after seeing the dramatic color transfer.

“Inside the bag it should look like this that’s how you know it’s authentic,” a commenter suggests, showing a picture of an authentic tag.

A second writes, “This colorway isn’t even in Coach stores anymore, so authenticity can’t be based on that alone. It was likely bought through a third‑party seller like eBay.”

However, others say they’ve also had the same issue with genuine bags from Coach.

“I got mine from the outlet and it does the same thing, stained so much of my clothes,” one says.

“One of my coach purses did this too and it was the only purse I took on a 14 day vacation. all my clothes got ruined,” another laments.

“This literally happened to my bag.The same one you have.I had mine really close to heater. And when it was too late, I saw the paint started coming off,” a third shares.
