China Energy Security Institute President vows to ‘destroy’ the United States if they decide to fire the ‘first shot’

After a series of threats from Donald Trump on behalf of the United States, China is now also responding with its own warnings, which sound quite alarming. I am talking of emergency levels of seriousness, one that could potentially lead to a war between China and the United States in the future.

A video from September 2025 is currently going viral on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), featuring Victor Gao, Chairman/President of the China Energy Security Institute, Vice President of the Centre for China and Globalisation (CCG), and Chair Professor at Soochow University. In it, he can be seen threatening America with severe consequences if they decide to pick a “war” with China or try to “destroy” it. He made it clear that China would not be the aggressor, but if the US were to attack first, they would not have the opportunity to strike back a second time. He remarked:

“If you want war, you will get war; if you want to destroy China, you will be destroyed. China will not fire the first shot, but China will not allow you to fire the second shot.”

Victor Gao proceeded to explain the potential threat that America could face if it decided to engage in a conflict with China, emphasizing the powerful arms and ammunition they posses that is capable of mass destruction. One of the weapons he mentioned was demonstrated during the Victory Day parade in Beijing on September 3, 2025, which he referred to as the “61.” He detailed the weapon’s characteristics, stating that the 61 is a missile that contains warheads, 60 of which were nuclear warheads and 1 was a hydrogen bomb. Gao also highlighted that China is the “only” nation with a hydrogen bomb hinting at the power they held solely due their vast war resources.

In discussing the missile that China could potentially use if America were to attack, Gao remarked:

A missile with all the warheads, we call it 61, because it can contain 60 nuclear warheads plus one hydrogen bomb. Now, in the world of today, let me tell you which country has a hydrogen bomb. China is the only country with hydrogen bomb.”

Gao continued to elaborate on the missile’s power, stating that the ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) can cover “every corner of the world” in less than twenty minutes and can “destroy any target” anywhere in the world without the possibility of interception.
