A Chicago man ordered five boxes of Girl Scout cookies from a co-worker’s daughter. Then she made a comment that made him feel betrayed.

TikToker Jacob (@medievaljeans), a comedian in Chicago who works in a daytime office, ordered a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Then he heard the young girl he was ordering from say that she was thankful he ordered “Soooooo many.”

In response, Jacob jokingly said in his TikTok video that he would not “make [himself] smaller” for the Girl Scouts of America. The comedic video jokingly flamed the child for shaming his cookie order.

Since posting, the video’s gotten 1.6 million views, with hundreds of commenters adding that they order significantly more cookies than Jacob did during Girl Scouts season. Some viewers even said that family members would order a dozen boxes, freezing them and pulling them out for later.

Are five boxes too many?

In Jacob’s video, he described the situation that unfolded in precise detail. He ordered five boxes. He gave her his order. She said, “Thank you mister J.” Then, she (metaphorically) stabbed him in the back.

“She said, ‘Thank you for ordering so many cookies.’” Jacob recounted. He quickly defended himself in his video, saying that five boxes were perfectly appropriate.

Commenters agreed, though. They even said that they ordered quite a few more boxes than just five. Some viewers shared that they ordered 16 boxes and that “five” was a cutesy, appropriate number. Others added that they ordered a dozen or two and kept them for many seasons afterward.

So, five isn’t necessarily too many Girl Scout cookies. In fact, it’s an ideal amount considering how many boxes other customers purchase. Commenters explained the young girl’s comment, saying, “She’s used to the people who say ‘Sure, I’ll take a box’ acting like they don’t care that much about Girl Scout cookies — but really they’re saying that to every scout they see as well as every time they leave Walmart.”

When are Girl Scout cookies usually available?

One thing Jacob mentioned was that Girl Scout cookies are technically only available seasonally. For that reason, it’s perfectly acceptable to order five boxes, or, for other people who agreed with his point, 10-15.

Girl Scout cookies are typically available from January until April. The reason that Girl Scouts are only sold by Girl Scouts once per year is that it’s part of an actual, entrepreneurial program that only runs during that season.

As the Girl Scouts’ website explains, “it is just one part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Girl Scouts participate in various activities throughout the year and work on many projects, including the Girl Scout Cookie Program.”

What happens if a person misses a local Girl Scout troop?

For those who happened to miss their local group selling cookies right outside their favorite grocery store, there’s still hope.

Girl Scouts also sell cookies online, so as long as a cookie-buyer gets “links from a Girl Scout or a troop participating in the online cookie program,” or visits girlscoutcookies.org, they should be able to purchase cookies.

How are those new Exploremores?

While many commenters were discussing their favorite Girl Scout treats, others had a one-track mind. The Girl Scouts of America recently introduced a new flavor, Exploremores. Many commenters were curious about them, as Jacob had seemingly opened and tried a box of them, something he inadvertently exposed in his TikTok.

“Babe I see you’ve already opened the Exploremores.. Can you report back on if they’re good or not?” One viewer asked.

Another viewer said, “I’m going to need a review on these Exploremores . . .”

While Jacob didn’t respond to their comments, viewers chimed in, adding that they loved the new flavor and that it was delicious. For that reason, many people ordered Thin Mints, Samoas, and Exploremores this year, adding them to the classic lineup.
