The topic of flying with babies always brings out strong opinions. While many passengers travel with headphones and accept that babies are part of public transportation, others believe flying with infants should only happen when absolutely necessary.

That’s the kind of debate a recent TikTok video has sparked.

In a video that has garnered over 964,300 views, NYC-based content creator Victoria (@toriyav) shows herself walking up and down the airplane aisle while holding her baby.

What Happened On The Flight?

“I did everything I could to make everyone else comfortable and keep my 4 month old quiet and someone went up to me and asked if I could give her something to watch to ‘shut her up,’” she wrote in the video’s text overlay.

In the clip, she can be seen pacing the aisle while wearing her baby, clearly trying to keep her calm.

“Literally had a panic attack the whole time,” she added in the caption.

The Reaction In The Comments Is Split

In the comments, viewers were divided on who was in the wrong.

“A plane is public transport if you can’t deal with noise take a private jet or don’t travel x,” one person wrote.

Others said babies themselves aren’t the issue.

“I’ve never been bothered by a baby because they cannot help it. However, older toddlers / kids kicking seats and being obnoxious does bother people,” another added.

“I hate the sound of babies crying but yk what i do? make sure i have my earphones/headphones with me, my phone charged and music ready,” another stated. “Babies cry all the the time and it’s not any easier on the parents.”

Some, however, argued that flying isn’t meant for infants at all.

“We really need to stop acting like this isn’t unfair to literally everyone including the baby,” one wrote.

Others focused on potential health concerns.

“Don’t expose my little child to the stress of flying. Pressure differences, noise, and the high risk of infection in crowds are not good for an infant,” another said.

Is It Safe For A Baby To Fly?

According to the Mayo Clinic, air travel is usually safe for most healthy, full-term infants after the first few weeks of life.

It may be riskier for babies born prematurely, particularly if they still need time for lung development. In those cases, experts recommend checking with a healthcare provider before flying.

In general, many experts advise avoiding travel within the first seven days after birth, but after that, it is typically considered safe.

The Mayo Clinic also suggests helping babies manage ear pressure during flights by giving them something to suck on, such as a breast, bottle, or pacifier.
