As Brad Pitt continues to bask in the glory of F1, Angelina Jolie is quietly moving away from Hollywood over years-long legal battle with ex
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Maleficent fame Angelina Jolie is joining the list of celebrities distancing themselves from Hollywood, as per recently emerged reports. While the primary reason behind this is “peace” and “safety”, some outlets highlight financial troubles as an additional impetus.
According to an article published by The Mirror US on January 27, 2026, Angelina Jolie is set to leave Hollywood and plant her roots elsewhere, as she plans to sell her Los Angeles home. The same piece reports that Jolie has allegedly been preparing for this next step since August of last year. Back then, People reported on the matter in an article published on August 11, 2025, and echoed the words of a source with a detailed understanding of the incident, who said that Jolie “never wanted to live in L.A. full time” but that “she didn’t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad (Pitt).”
Angelina Jolie’s desire to move out of LA is not new. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in August 2024, when asked if she would stay in the city when her kids grow up, she showed significant opposition to the idea and said:
I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave. When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. [After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”
That being said, as previously mentioned, numerous sources have suggested that Jolie’s decision to leave LA is also influenced by her financial troubles, which are partly a result of her lengthy legal battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt. According to the Daily Mail, Jolie sold her New York City apartment on July 18, 2025, likely to secure some additional funds. For those who may not be aware, the former couple has been involved in a legal dispute over their jointly owned wine estate, Miravel. After they split in 2016, Jolie reportedly sold her 50 per cent share of the winery to a third party in 2021 without consulting Pitt, despite their agreement that neither would sell their parts without discussing it first. This situation led to Pitt suing Jolie.
In addition to this, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, their non-profit organisation, seems to be facing challenges and incurring significant losses, which could further limit Jolie’s financial independence. On top of this, Jolie is currently engaged in another legal battle surrounding her clothing brand, Atelier Jolie, located in NoHo. In July 2024, an art gallery known as Atelier Jolie Gallery in Pennsylvania filed an opposition against Angelina’s trademark, adding yet another layer of complexity to her life.
