Woman’s ‘Alo’ letters on $148 sweatshirt fall off. What else should you avoid during the $30%-off Black Friday sale?

Several content creators have gone viral on TikTok for pointing out that the pricey athleisure brand Alo might not be worth the hype.
Olympia Trihas (@olympiafuckingtrihas) shared a video about a $148 sweatshirt she purchased that quickly caught the attention of online viewers. After waking up from a nap, she noticed the word “alo” stitched across the front of the sweater had mostly fallen off, leaving just the letter “o.”
“Pov you wake up from your nap and your alo becomes o,” she said in her clip, which has racked up more than 991,500 views. In the video, she even searches under her bedsheets for the missing letters.
Trihas told us that while an Alo manager who saw her video assisted with getting her a replacement sweatshirt, she doesn’t think other customers would get the same treatment. “If I did not have a viral video, I really do not think they would have offered a replacement,” she said.
Trihas added that she wouldn’t recommend the brand to anyone. “It is unacceptable that a 200$ sweater ruins after a month of wear,” she shared.
Another TikTok user, @camryyalyse, encountered issues with the same sweatshirt before even leaving the store.
“Pov: the letters on alo’s $148 zip up is falling off before even buying…” she wrote in the text overlay of her video, which has more than 143,200 views.
The clip shows her at an Alo store with the tag still attached while the “a” and “l” are already peeling off the front of the sweatshirt.
“I was so shocked,” @camryyalyse added in her caption.
What else should you avoid buying at Alo?
The criticism of Alo’s quality comes in the lead-up to the brand’s 30%-off Black Friday sale. Other content creators have highlighted additional items at Alo that they claim are not worth the price.
One woman shared that she found various pieces—including bike shorts, sweatpants, and long-sleeved shirts—that hadn’t even been released yet but were already pilled, meaning small fuzzy balls of fiber had formed on the surface, making the items look worn.
“Paying $$$$$ to look cheap,” she wrote in her video caption.
Another shopper said she bought a workout set from Alo that also pilled and included the infamous $148 sweatshirt, which she described as of low quality.
“Somehow the lowest quality clothes I’ve ever worn,” she wrote in the text overlay of her clip.
Pilling is a common complaint across the platform. In a video posted in April, a third content creator showcased a pair of Alo sweatpants and a matching sweatshirt adorned with fuzzy fiber balls.
“Alo quality,” she wrote in the text overlay of her clip, followed by a crying emoji.
Is Alo losing its touch?
Alo has been facing growing criticism from shoppers who say the brand’s quality doesn’t match its high price tag. Many loyal customers report issues with the clothes breaking down after just a few wears or washes.
One of the most common complaints is pilling. Leggings, sweatshirts, and other items develop small balls of fabric quickly, leaving garments looking worn out.
Some shoppers report that seams come undone and stitching falls apart, while others note that the fabric loses its shape after use or washing.

Overall, many feel that Alo has transitioned from a high-quality athleisure brand to one that some content creators accuse of selling inexpensive clothes—ones where the materials and construction don’t match the hype or the price.
Viewers ‘de-influenced’ from buying Alo products
Many who watched Trihas’s clip, in particular, said it was enough to make them rethink shopping at Alo.
“You de influenced me so fast,” one woman wrote.
Another added, “This is why I have nothing Alo.”
Some commenters suggested other athleisure brands are more reliable. “Lululemon would never,” one woman said.
“$200 polyester,” another wrote. “Lulu would never.”
Others noted that the high price seemed tied to the branding rather than the quality.
“Mind you, the only reason [the sweatshirt] is 200$ is because of those letters,” one commenter said about the falling lettering.
“The sweater’s worth about 20$ now,” another quipped.
A few shared that their own Alo pieces had held up fine.
“I wear mine religiously and was it just as religiously, and it has never lost any of the lettering on the sweatpants or hoodie,” one viewer shared.
