The lore surrounding Annabelle is simple: She is a Raggedy Ann doll who is possessed by a demon. She was gifted to a young woman who reported the doll doing things on its own. Since, there have been rumors that if you do not honor the doll when you see her, she will get her revenge. So taking her on tour was, already, not really something we should do and now there is the mysterious passing of Rivera.

In a statement shared on Instagram, NESPR lead investigator Chris Gilloren announced the news. “It’s with deep sadness that Tony, Wade, and I share the sudden passing of our close friend and partner, Dan Rivera. We are heartbroken and still processing this loss,” read the post. “Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal. His kindness and passion touched everyone who knew him. Thank you for your support and kind thoughts during this difficult time.”

The news comes as a shock at the same time as many were spreading false rumors about the doll itself. On the one hand, taking Annabelle out on tour has never felt like a “good” idea but the doll has also been sat on display at the house of Ed and Lorraine Warren since the case. But there is a lot circulating around the “Devils on the Run” tour that isn’t great.

There were the fires in New Orleans when she was there, rumors that she was missing, and now the untimely death of Rivera. There is no news on what actually happened to Rivera and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
