New York Server Says Customer Insisted on Ordering Fries at a Restaurant That Has None on the Menu, Then Dine and Dashed When the Bill Came

Restaurant server Madeleine Le Du (@notenoughfreckles) from New York came online to talk about the table of eight she waited on. Not only did the couple make unreasonable requests, but they also allegedly disappeared when the bill came.

“Currently having the table from hell right now, and there’s eight of them,” Le Du said on TikTok, presumably during a restaurant service. She explained that as she was setting the service water on the table, the woman said they’d like to order immediately. Le Du assumed the family was familiar with the menu, like this Chili’s regular who got into a tussle with the server after ordering a modification on her son’s chicken sandwich.

But the woman ordered fries from Le Du as a side to her son’s cheeseburger—an item that is not available on their menu. The customer allegedly kept insisting on fries, and Le Du apologized, repeating that their establishment doesn’t serve fries.

“So, what do you have?” the customer supposedly asked without checking the menu. Le Du said, “I started rambling off all the sides off the top of my head.” And yet, Le Du said the customer still repeated “fries.” Le Du suggested potato chips, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes as alternatives, but the woman allegedly looked at her as though the server robbed her purse. This wouldn’t be the last of Le Du’s woes with the table.

Providing the best restaurant service for a difficult table

After the woman decided to order an Arnold Palmer, she tried the drink and still found it too sweet. Then she requested, “This is still too sweet. Can I just get an extra cup and another tea unsweetened?” Le Du obliged and gave the woman another cup. The woman also ordered another appetizer with dip and chips, and while Le Du was putting the order at the center of the table, the woman allegedly fussed.

“She’s not going to eat that,” the woman said, referring to the old woman sitting next to her. The elderly woman was confused and then was told the snack had crab. Le Du thought that wasn’t her problem at all. Yet, she felt as though she’d offended the woman for placing the snack near the senior.

“How is that my problem? I didn’t put the food in her mouth—I put it on the table,” Le Du said. She later continued her video at home, talking about what else transpired during the chaotic service. When Le Du placed the appetizer in front of the woman, she allegedly pushed the plate away and made another snarky comment.

“It’s not all for me,” the woman supposedly said. Because of how much she’s been complaining, Le Du started calling the customer the “food police.” When she finished serving the appetizers, Le Du asked if the table needed anything else. One of the customers followed up on the kids’ food.

“You guys ordered seven minutes ago,” Le Du told TikTok. Essentially, it was still too soon for the table to do a follow-up. But difficult customers aren’t uncommon in the food service industry, as this barista from California encountered a customer who wouldn’t stop bugging the counter about oatmilk. Nevertheless, when kids’ food came, Le Du left the table.

Not worth the trouble

But when she was about to get the adults’ food, the customers allegedly started going to the service station to grab their food. Le Du emphasized, “That’s my job.” But when she started serving the food, the ‘food police’ woman’s husband got in Le Du’s way.

“He just looked up at me and smiled at me. Who are you? Have you guys been in a restaurant before?” Le Du commented. The cherry on top was that in the end, the woman who kept complaining and her husband were allegedly nowhere to be found when the bill arrived. It was unclear who footed the couple’s bill at the table. While Le Du had one difficult table to deal with, this Florida server had one chaotic table after the other until closing time.
