Woman orders vanity from Home Depot. Then she goes to pick it up—and knows she’s in trouble when they ask where her car is

A woman ordered a white vanity from Home Depot. She received three oversized boxes. Then she opened the boxes and was confused by what she saw.

The “Atlanta-transplant” Avelyn (@its.avelyn) shared her experience in a viral TikTok. The video was captioned: “Home Depot please come pick this up” and gained over 431, 200 views.

What happened with this Home Depot package?

In the clip, she explained that she ordered a white vanity with delivery to the store.  However, at pickup, things took an unexpected turn. She knew something wasn’t quite right when the employee asked where her car was. She was then given three boxes weighing roughly 100 pounds each.

Avelyn was confused but figured it was her miscalculation or “girl math”. 

As a result, she didn’t have enough room in her vehicle to take everything at once. So she loaded up two boxes and brought them home before returning for the third.

Getting the boxes into her car and eventually into her home was an ordeal in itself. Avelyn described doing plenty of shimmying, maneuvering, and balancing to get the enormous packages where they needed to go.

But the real surprise came when she opened the first box.

What was in the boxes?

On opening the first box, the woman expected to find pieces of her new white vanity inside. Instead, the contents appeared to be black.

That immediately raised a question. Avelyn wondered if Home Depot gave her the wrong product.

She moved on to the second box, hoping it would at least contain the vanity she had actually ordered. This time, things started looking much more promising.

Using the assembly manual, the creator went through the parts and began taking inventory. She compared what she had with the instructions. Avelyn concluded that the second box appeared to contain everything needed to assemble her white vanity.

This left one very important question. What exactly was in the other boxes labeled with her name?

What did Avelyn do next?

With two boxes apparently containing items she hadn’t ordered, the woman wasn’t sure what to do next. She called a friend to get some advice.

The friend’s suggestion was simple: Call Home Depot.

The situation presented a problem.  After already struggling to transport the boxes, Avelyn said she was both unwilling and unable to go through the hassle of returning the extra merchandise herself.

And that’s when the comments section came alive.

People say she’s not alone

Commenters said they’d seen this before.

Rather than being shocked by the retailer’s apparent mix-up, many commenters said they had experienced something remarkably similar. 

One commenter called Home Depot “a mess”.

They commented that they bought a fridge but received “a whole $10,000 backyard gas grill setup.” 

They even offered an entrepreneurial solution: Sell the unexpected items on Facebook Marketplace.

“We sold it on FB Marketplace. We made enough to buy my son his 1st car,” said the user.

Other viewers believed Home Depot would not pick up the boxes.

One such user who identified herself as a Home Depot manager claimed, “If the shipping label has your name on it, that is the vendor’s mistake. There’s nothing a store can do except ship them out.”

Have there been other Home Depot mishaps?

Customers have shared a range of disasters, from receiving the wrong merchandise to having massive items left at their homes with no easy way to return them.

In one recent BBB complaint, Home Depot reportedly delivered the wrong 200-pound item to an 89-year-old resident’s home. The household was left struggling to get the package out of the way while waiting for the retailer to retrieve it. 

In another case, a customer expecting a bathroom vanity on a scheduled weekday was surprised when Home Depot showed up on Saturday instead. Additionally, a separate order was reportedly delivered to the wrong address.

Did commenters have a theory about the mystery boxes?

One viewer, @Rachel Herdt, suggested the unexpected items could be roof panels. She exclaimed that they might be worth quite a bit. “Girl if those are roof panels those are hella expensive,” she wrote. 

Avelyn confirmed the theory with a simple “Yes”. 

This left commenters even more convinced that the accidental delivery could have been a valuable haul.

Home Depot Is Coming to Pick It Up

However, the creator eventually provided an update.

In the comments,  Avelyn revealed that Home Depot had scheduled a pickup for the extra items.

That decision left some commenters genuinely disappointed.

Viewers had already started imagining the resale possibilities.

Instead, the bonus haul is reportedly going back to the retailer with no payout.
