Houston Woman Stays in an Airbnb and She Couldn't Get Over the Sink: 'Trina! We Done Overcame!'

Airbnb staycations would sometimes bring unexpected surprises. While some people are shocked by the strange layout of the property, Trina (@pepperann03) from Houston shared a clip of the unexpected thing her mother was excited about during their Airbnb stay.

“Trina! There’s still water coming out of this thing!” Trina’s mother said, her voice echoing through the property. In any other context, it would be concerning to have water leaking at an Airbnb.

When Trina came to the bathroom, her mother was smiling and gesturing to the sink and faucet.

“There’s real water coming out of this thing!” She said. The bowl didn’t look unusual—it looked like a copper-colored ceramic sink bowl. The faucet had an industrial aesthetic to it, with the top part half-opened, allowing the user to see the water flow. The design seemed modern, with the flow of the water adjustable on the faucet’s lever. By all means, the faucet’s design was interesting—but nothing too unusual.

For Trina’s mother, this bowl was everything.

“A bowl, Trina!” She seemed to be amused by the basin’s shape. It was bowl-type compared to a standard bathroom sink.

“We done overcame, Trina!” She gushed, adding, “I’m somebody now!”

“Mama, you’ve been somebody,” Trina reacted. Even she couldn’t stifle her laughter. Later on, Trina’s mother seemed to be tinkering with the sink drain, confused if she should lift it up.

Is she a time traveler?

Needless to say, Trina’s mother was highly amused by the bathroom sink. Social media couldn’t get enough of her mother’s reaction to the sink, questioning if she has a time traveler for a mother. TikTok commenters were joking that she must have lived through segregation because of the language she used. It also didn’t help that her mother was wearing a bonnet and a puff-sleeve dress, making it look like she came from a different era.

One comment reads, “she know she free??”

A TikTok user joked, “What year is your mama from?”

Another said, “Wait ’till she see a DVD!”

Someone else said, “This reaction combined with the dress and headscarf, you’d think we were freed yesterday.”

A commenter speculated, “I just know this how her and Harriet was moving.”

But some took the joke further, saying that she must be civil rights activist Harriet Tubman, who managed to time travel to the current era. One TikTok user wrote, “Why y’all been hiding the sinks from Ms. Tubman?”

It’s not everyday that people use the term “overcame” all because of a bathroom sink. If she was overcoming anything, it was figuring out the settings of the faucet.

Trina’s mom gets her own Airbnb sink

Jokes aside, many TikTok users were amused by Trina’s mother and her joyful reaction to a bathroom sink. Because of this, Trina opened a GoFundMe to get her mother the sink of her dreams.

Trina eventually told her mother about the GoFundMe, and she was both excited and thankful to random people online for their kindness.

“I appreciate everything people give me. I think that’s so sweet that people are showing love and that people are still loving,” she said in the update video. While people are looking forward to her reactions once she gets her own bowl sink, they are also hoping that Trina’s mother gets a full bathroom renovation.
