Woman boards Florida flight for her bach trip. Her ex is on board—and sitting right next to her group: ‘This would have me sooo confused spiritually’

Some people believe in fate, or others call it the universe’s will. This man might be wondering who made this cruel hand possible. Of all the seats on a plane, the one next to your ex—on her bachelorette trip—feels statistically impossible… and yet.

His viral TikTok plays out as if showcasing how the universe has a sense of humor. He boarded a routine flight out of Florida only to realize he was surrounded by a very specific group of passengers: his ex, her entire bridal crew, and—just to raise the stakes—her mother sitting right beside him. Casual. Is this fate or, as some viewers speculate, a very deliberate play from the bride-to-be?

What happened on this flight from Florida?

Johnny (@johnny_tropics) is pleading his case in his TikTok’s comments section: as absurd as it sounds, this actually did happen to him. In just three days, the clip documenting this rare situation has hit 3 million views.

With only seven seconds and a text overlay, Johnny paints the story.

“Spontaneous trip home from Florida and my ex GF and her entire bach walk on the plane and get sat next to me,” the text overlay on the video reads. “So now I’m just catching up with her mom.”

In the video, Johnny films three women sitting in the row in front of him. He then flips the camera and shows presumably the bride-to-be’s mother, sitting right beside him. Johnny smiles at the camera and then ends the video. His caption simply says, “Would you jump?”

What is the Red String Theory?

Some call it fate, some call it the universe, and many call it the Red String Theory. Seen in popular movies such as “Past Lives” or “Your Name,” this theory comes from ancient East Asian folklore. The belief is that people are destined to be together, and what connects them is an invisible red string of fate.

Gut Instinct Media reported on this phenomenon. While the Korean and Japanese cultures might have slightly different aspects, they noted that “in Chinese tradition, the thread is often linked to the deity of marriage and matchmaking, symbolizing that even amid life’s chaos, those meant to be together will eventually find each other.”

This is what Johnny’s viewers seem to be focusing on. They believe that this string of fate eventually led the split couple within each other’s radius. Many choose to see it as a sign, as the circumstance (her imminent wedding) couldn’t be more time-sensitive.

Was the bachelorette trip a coincidence?

As mentioned, Johnny’s viewers go fully spiritual with the news. One blatantly claims, “It’s a sign she loves u.” Johnny replies, “I wish.” A second viewer says, “I know that lady said she missed you.” A third shares, “This would have me sooo confused spiritually.”

Some viewers boldly claim that if this happened to them, they wouldn’t take it as lightly as Johnny did. “I don’t believe in coincidence so this would actually jeopardize my entire future,” says a comment with almost 250 likes. Another says, “The way this would be my sign to cancel the wedding.”

Others crack jokes about the bride possibly having something to do with it. A comment with 64,000 likes says, “The extent she’s willing to go to keep you jealous is crazy.” Another with almost 25,000 likes says, “Thats a lot of effort just to see you again king.”

What did he say?

In an Instagram direct message with the Mary Sue, Johnny reveals that he didn’t even select his seat.

“Randomly got put in 9b.. got a middle seat which I never do and almost asked to switch,” he said. “Then I look up and see her best friend walking on the plane, followed by her, her mom, sister, etc., it was more funny than anything.”

Jonny says he and his ex parted ways amicably years ago but hadn’t seen each other since.

“I put it on Instagram first and my DMs were blowing up so I thought maybe I should try it on TikTok,” he said. “She was a good sport about it, even resharing it on Instagram, saying how funny the whole thing was. The world really is so small, there is no chance we would get back together but she’s an awesome girl and happy for her and her soon to be husband. Me and her mom had some laughs catching up.”
