Couple boards red-eye flight from California to New York. Then she realizes he booked first-class—only for himself: ‘Leave him or leave us out of it’

A woman has thousands of people on TikTok begging her to leave her boyfriend after posting a 16-second clip.
In it, TikTok creator Nicole Vawter (@nicmarievee) films her boyfriend standing in between the airplane aisles.
“Does anyone have a dog house I can borrow,” she wrote jokingly in the video’s text overlay. “My boyfriend booked himself first class while I’m back in economy plus.”
“Do you have anything to say for yourself?” she asks him in the clip.
“I love you,” he responds sheepishly.
She then films his noticeably more comfortable-looking seat before he walks her back to her own, which appears to be a standard economy-plus seat with extra legroom.
“Immediate boyfriend jail,” she added in the caption.
The video quickly took off, racking up over 7 million views and thousands of comments.
Commenters Are Relentless
In the comments, viewers immediately jumped to conclusions about the couple.
“He literally paid extra to not sit by you,” one person wrote.
“Leave him or leave us out,” another added.
“There is absolutely no context that would make this okay,” a third said.
“Honestly, don’t listen to the haters. You’re doing a great job keeping him out of the dating pool. Never leave him,” another joked.
She Addresses the Backlash
In a follow-up video, Nicole says the situation wasn’t as serious as people made it out to be.
“I promise you I’m fine… you don’t need to call the police,” she says.
She explains that the couple had been in California visiting her family before flying back to New York, where they live.
“My boyfriend… works a very high-demand finance job, so he could not take any time off,” she says, adding that he had been working long hours while traveling.
According to her, the first-class seat was a practical decision.
“He was like, ‘I’m going to use some of my points and do a first-class flight so that I can genuinely sleep on the plane,’” she says.
She adds that he had to go straight back to work after landing, followed by a business trip that same night.
While she acknowledges that she joked about the situation, she says she didn’t actually mind.
“I can give him sh-t for it… which is what I did in my video,” she says.
Nicole also pushed back on the idea that she was owed the same seat.
“I don’t necessarily need us to spend $2,000 on a ticket for me to sit first class,” she says, adding that she’d rather put that money toward other things.
“When you’re in a relationship, it’s not just like, ‘You owe me a $2,000 seat since I’m a woman,’” she says.
She ended the video by assuring viewers everything was fine.
“I promise nobody got hurt in the making of this content. We are okay over here,” she says.
Is This a Red Flag?
It could be. According to Psychology Today, if a partner frequently puts their own needs and comfort ahead of yours, it can be a sign that the relationship isn’t worth fighting for.
Along with that, things like poor communication, mismatched goals, disrespect, or emotional abuse are often considered red flags for a couple.
That said, we as viewers don’t know what’s actually going on behind the scenes in their relationship. One moment like this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a pattern.
At the end of the day, it’s between the two parties in a couple. Sometimes one person might need a little extra accommodation, and there’s no reason it always has to fall on one side.
