Working in retail can be exhausting. You’re on your feet hours on end, juggling a variety of tasks, all while making minimum wage. But the most frustrating part of the job would be dealing with difficult customers. More specifically, those who order drive-up orders are the bane of this Target employee’s existence.

What Is Drive-Up Pickup Option?

Similar to any online order service, customers virtually browse through their selected Target location’s aisles on the app, choose the items they want and pay. Within two hours, an employee will shop and prepare the order until it’s ready, which is sent through a notification. And if you’re craving Starbucks, you can add a beverage of choice before hitting ‘Drive Up’ on the app. When you confirm your arrival, an employee will deliver your groceries and coffee to your parked vehicle.

Why Does It Annoy This Target Worker?

“[Expletive] be like, ‘Oh my god. I love Target drive-up,’” Bay Area-based TikTok creator Joseph Rodriguez (@jojoseph14) begins his video mimicking a customer as he drives in his car. Then, he starts his rant.

“Just because your lazy [expletive] doesn’t want to come to the store and do your own shopping so you have other people do it,” he says. “It’s just so frustrating. I hate when people tell me that.”

Essentially, this is convenient for the customer, not him. “Meanwhile, I delivered 60 things to their car and they’re all freaking heavy. So, I don’t want to hear it,” the content creator remarks.

Rodriguez shares his ‘favorite’ scenario in the caption. “Especially when It’s 10 Cases Of Soda,” he writes accompanied by an eyeroll emoji.

Target Employees Echoed In Agreement

The clip garnered over 51,000 views, resonating with other fellow Target workers who also chimed in their memorable pickups.

“I hate it when it’s raining or really cold and they say to you, ‘I feel so bad that you have to come out here in this weather.’ Then why do a drive up???” one viewer commented.

“And when they get Starbucks with it,” another revealed.

“When they complain [about] how long it takes and it’s only me on drive up,” a third shared.

“The people who order 10 cases of water are the ones i hate the most,” a fourth stated.

“Then they only order one thing when it can easily be found in the store like come on,” a fifth said.

The initial trial launched in 201,7 and the program rolled out nationwide a couple of years later.  However, it exploded in 2020 because of the fresh and frozen groceries option added along with the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, it was a win-win for the consumers and companies. Shoppers were willing to spend more on their favorite products at the tap of a button and have them delivered safely to their car. On the flip side, Target saw a whopping 500% soar in sales from this service, according to Fox 40. Needless to say, this feature isn’t disappearing anytime soon.
