‘My husband would have an absolute aneurysm’: Illinois mom’s daughters want LoveShackFancy Stanley cups. But are 2 cups really worth $100?

During Christmas, people scramble to find the perfect presents. Whether you’re on a budget or have room to splurge, giving someone a gift they will love is a priority. With parents, the desire to make the holidays extra special for their children is even stronger. In the digital age, overconsumption and expensive, trendy products have dominated social media, including Labubus, Drunk Elephant, and Stanley cups, making gift-giving even more stressful.

What are the LoveShackFancy Stanley cups?

Since 2023, Stanleys have surged in popularity across several age groups, driven by TikTok and influencers. It wasn’t until the following summer that the drinkware first partnered with fashion brand LoveShackFancy to release several collaborations. Last month, Stanley x LoveShackFancy launched its latest seasonal collection of bow-themed, pastel-colored tumblers, bottles, and gift sets. All of these options come in four lovely colors: Pink Peppermint, Winter Ice, Bow Chantilly, and Alpine Blue.

Like all Stanleys, they are notoriously pricey, which is one reason an Illinois-based mother was indecisive about gifting these to her girls.

Mother’s LoveShackFancy Stanley Cup dilemma

While sitting in her car on her lunch break, mother of two and TikTok creator Brtiny (@britny_k5) explains her predicament.

“OK, so I need you guys to de-influence me before I buy them,” she says. “I really want to buy my girls the LoveShackFancy Stanley cups for Christmas. They have a lot of cups.”

However, she tries to rationalize the impulse. “But they’re so cute, and I know they will love them, and it’s Christmas.” In addition to her daughters’ growing Stanley stack, there is another problem: money.

“Do  I need to spend over $100 on two cups for Christmas?” Britny asks, cringing at the hefty price tag. “My husband would have an absolute aneurysm if he saw that I bought them and what they cost.” Conflicted, she asks over 496,000 viewers, “So, do I buy it?”

Viewers were also split

Not only were Britny’s feelings divided, but viewers were as well. Some proposed their reasons to give in.

“As a love shack fancy Stanley owner. Do it,” one viewer commented.

“Buy them. Christmas is the perfect time to splurge on something you wouldn’t normally buy them,” a second agreed.

“Yes, get your babies whatever you think is perfect for them. They’ll love it and be happy,” a third echoed.

On the other hand, many argued against it for several reasons.

“Dude, no, if they have enough cups go spend your money on stuff they need. Clothes, shoes, makeup. If they have all their needs met, it’s up to you,” one commenter argued.

“Nope. They leak all over the place. As a teacher, I can’t stand tumblers at school,” another remarked.

A third suggested a happy medium, “Don’t buy the cups if you have a bunch already. Buy them the perfume sprays!!”
