In Response to SOPA Query, Sega Recommends a Hard Reset

Recommended Videos

With the ESA throwing their considerable weight behind SOPA, it’s become an important part of SOPA activism to harass and get statements from members of the ESA as to their own positions on SOPA. Some spoke out against the ESA’s stance. Some didn’t. Some responded with a non sequitur. When pressed for a statement on their SOPA stance by DanGlozier66 at HotBloodedGaming, Sega of America responded with some sage advice: Have you tried performing a hard reset?

The response, in full, went a little something like this.

“Generally these issues are caused by bad installs or junk data that’s stuck in the system memory. The first suggestion would be to perform a hard reset on the device. It’s best to attempt this any time you experience performance problems with your device or have an app crash. If it doesn’t work, its [sic] suggested that you uninstall the app, perform a hard reset, reinstall and then perform one more hard reset before launching the game.

If you’re [sic] problems continue, please let us know.”

As much as I would love to believe that this is somehow a deep-but-witty observation about the absurdity of SOPA, it’s obviously a form letter that got sent out before anyone took so much as a half-second glance at the original query’s content. That being said, Sega of America has at least released a video admitting that their response was non-applicable and an accident. Not only that, but they do a good job of making fun of themselves while they’re at it.

Between the horribly inattentive mistake and the charming, carefree apology, I don’t really know how to feel other than to regress back to my Sega Genesis-loving, logicless fanboy roots and say good on them. For something, I guess? Whatever, let’s just hope that when they do put out an applicable statement on SOPA, it’s the correct one.
