The World's Largest Treehouse is Bigger Than Your House

Crossville, Tennessee minister and self-taught carpenter and architect Horace Burges was praying back in 1993 when God supposedly told him that if he built a treehouse, God would see to it that he never ran out of material. Since then, he has constantly worked on the treehouse — for fourteen years — and it still isn’t completely finished.

The treehouse is 97 feet tall, supported by a live, 80-foot-tall white oak, which is 12 feet in diameter at its base, with six other trees bracing the treehouse. The mansion has over 80 rooms and many porches, nooks, overlooks and stairways, and is built out of scrap wood. The treehouse has 10 floors, around 9 to 11 feet high, and measuring between 8,000 and 10,000 square feet. Atop the treehouse sits a tower weighing around 5,700 pounds and contains 10 oxygen acetylene bottles being used as bells. The treehouse has not yet entered the Guinness Book of World Records, as Burges still needs to provide measurements of the entire structure.
