Things We Saw Today: Bill Skarsgard Joins ‘The Crow’ Remake

Plus Bruce Campbell, Misha Collins, and more!

Bill Skarsgard is going from clowns to crows. The actor, best known for his terrifying turn as Pennywise in the It films, will star as Eric Draven/The Crow in the upcoming reboot of The Crow. The film will be directed by Rupert Sanders ( Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell). The Crow is a gritty revenge thriller based on James O’Barr’s 1980s indie comic series, which follows Draven and his fiancée who are killed by a violent gang. Draven is resurrected by a crow, and then seeks bloody revenge on the gang that killed him and his fiancée.

The Crow hit theaters in 1994, where it was haunted by the tragic on-set accident that killed its star Brandon Lee. Lee, the son of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, was killed when he was shot with a prop gun that had a fragment of a dummy bullet in it. The film was a critical and commercial hit, and attained a cult following in the years since its release. The Crow spawned three sequel films and a television series.

A reboot has been in the works since 2008, with almost every major male film star attached at some point. In 2016, Jason Momoa joined the cast with Corin Hardy (The Nun) as the director. Ultimately, Momoa left the project, writing in an Instagram post, “I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right.”
