Multiple DC Films Delayed Until 2023 While ‘Shazam! Fury of the God’ Moves Up

Right now, The Batman is rising to the top of the box office, with DC once more seeing their favorite best boy winning. However, some other projects meant to be released this year have been pushed back—most until next year.

According to Variety, these films are being pushed back due to “COVID-induced production delays with visual effects.” Black Adam, led by Dwayne Johnson, is being pushed back three months, from July 29 to October 21, 2022. The Flash, which will be Ezra Miller’s first solo film as the crimson speedster, is now being moved from November 4, 2022 to June 23, 2023.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa, is being pushed back from December 16, 2022 to March 17, 2023. DC League of Super-Pets will be taking Black Adam‘s original spot, moving from May 20 to July 29, 2022. Johnson will also be in that film, as well, playing Krypto the Super-Dog.

The one film actually getting to move up in its timeline was Shazam! Fury of the Gods, with Zachary Levi filling out his trademark costume earlier—moved from June 2, 2023 to December 12, 2022. Considering the found-family theme, it’ll be a great Christmas/holiday movie.

“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ to audiences as a Christmas gift this year,” said Jeff Goldstein. “Families of all ages will really enjoy it.”

COVID has, rightfully, led to stricter on-set health precautions, and considering that Momoa contracted the disease at one point, it is not shocking that they might need some more time to get things right. All of these films are ones I’m interested in, and I’m truly rooting for DC since they have been making so much content I really have enjoyed thus far.
