Remember all those times men said that women-led superhero movies didn’t have an audience? Well, get ready to laugh in their big dumb faces: Captain Marvel, the first female-led film of the MCU, is on track to earn an estimated $140-$180 million its opening weekend. Within the first 24 hours of advance ticket sales, Captain Marvel was already one of Fandango’s top three MCU pre-sellers, trailing Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis released a statement saying, “We’re seeing fantastic advance ticket sales for Captain Marvel because it’s a historic film for Marvel Studios, one that fans have been waiting to see for a decade … As the studio’s first female-driven superhero film, Captain Marvel is a benchmark moment for the genre, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for star Brie Larson, who will play the most powerful Marvel superhero to date.”

The film, which premieres on March 8th (International Women’s Day, noice) is one of the most hotly anticipated films of 2019, so its hardly a surprise to see such strong preliminary figures. Still, it’s a satisfying clap back to men everywhere who like to pretend that women don’t care about comic book films. If anything, Captain Marvel is poised to be a crossover hit with men, women and youth audiences. March 8th can’t come soon enough.
