While there’s been endless speculation over the plot points of Avengers 4, most of said speculation has centered on the Avengers themselves, and what will become of them. But a new leaked photo from the set gives us a glimpse at an unlikely hero joining the fray: Pepper Potts. The photo, which appeared on The Uncanny Comic Quest Podcast‘s Instagram feed, shows Gwyneth Paltrow suited up in an iron suit of her own, based off of her Rescue armor in the comics.

Pepper donning the Rescue armor makes perfect sense, and it gives Gwyneth Paltrow something to do besides rolling her eyes at Tony Stark. Though she’s only in Infinity War for a few brief moments, giving Pepper a larger role in Avengers 4 is a satisfying conclusion for the MCU’s first main female character. And with Iron Man still grounded on Titan, Earth needs all the heroes it can get.

This isn’t the first time Paltrow will be getting her hero on. In Iron Man 3 she was injected with the experimental Extremis treatment designed by Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce). Extremis helps Pepper survive a dangerous fall, and gives her the strength to kill Killian after Tony Stark is unable to.

Marvel CEO Kevin Feige discussed the evolution of Pepper, saying “We are bored by the damsel in distress … In the comic books she does get a taste for the suit and becomes her own hero named Rescue, who doesn’t necessarily battle other people, but is on missions to help people and to save people. Will we do that down the line with Gwyneth Paltrow? Who knows. But her being in the suit is something we have been playing with since Iron Man 2 …”

Seeing Paltrow in the suit is exciting, and her evolution from “concerned girlfriend/assistant” to Avenger herself is long overdue. Potts is one of the few women to make it out of Marvel’s Phase One, with Thor‘s Natalie Portman leaving Jane Foster behind and Peggy Carter passing away in Captain America: Civil War. And don’t forget Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross, who joined The Incredible Hulk‘s Ed Norton in a one-and-done MCU appearance.

What do you think of Pepper Potts/Rescue joining the fight against Thanos? Are you here for Gwyneth Paltrow: Action Hero?
