Heather North, the beloved voice of Scooby-Doo‘s Daphne Blake has passed away at 71. Sources report that the voice actress died on Nov. 30th in her Los Angeles home after a long illness.
North voiced Daphne from 1970 to 1985 and 1997-2003. The actress took the role over from Stefanianna Christopherson, who voiced the character in season 1. After Christopherson left to get married, North’s roommate Nicole Jaffe (Velma) encouraged North to audition. (Isn’t it such a heart-warming fact that the two were friends even before they were on-screen friends?)
North also appeared on shows like Days of Our Lives, Green Acres, The Monkees, and the Disney film The Barefoot Executive. From the Hollywood Reporter:
“Survivors include her son Kevin and daughter-in-law Stephanie; stepdaughter Nina and her husband Brent; stepson Wes and his wife Leslie; and granddaughter Jocelyn. Another stepdaughter, Kara, died just a week ago.”
A memorial service is set for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at First Christian Church in Studio City.
