We’ve seen women and girl-centric magazines do so much heavy lifting over the last year in everything from reproductive rights to representation to anything dealing with the awfulness of the current administration. The response to the important work of journalists like Lauren Duca has been incredibly valuable, but it’s also often been dismissed for the demographic and readership of these publications.
Regardless, teen girls and women are making an undeniable impact, and if you need hope look no further than the young girls promoting confidence, making art about human rights, and more.
Teen Vogue announced today that their Volume IV issue which hits newsstands December 5th will be guest-edited by former presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Clinton, who will also keynote the first Teen Vogue Summit in conversation with Yara Shahidi, appears on the cover in front of an American flag with the words “Stand up” behind her, the words “Nevertheless, we resist”, and the quote “Fear is always with us, but we don’t have time for it. Not now.”
Clinton begins her cover letter, “Have you ever noticed that whenever a teenage girl takes a stand on an important issue, people seem surprised?” There, she praises Teen Vogue as a publication that “takes teen girls seriously and understands that style and substance aren’t mutually exclusive.”
In the issue, she’ll be introducing her childhood best friend Betsy Ebeling, her “daughter and hero” Chelsea, and others. “All in all, this issue is a celebration of resistance and resilience”, she writes. Will you be picking up an issue?
