The Rock and Jason Statham Getting Their Own Fast and Furious Spin-Off? Neat.

Maybe there’s more to this alleged The Rock and Vin Diesel feud than I thought. The two reportedly agree over their approaches to work (that’s a kind way of putting it) but perhaps there’s some jealousy attached.

According to Deadline, The Fate of the Furious and longtime franchise writer Chris Morgan will soon be working on a script for a spin off starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham. Both started out as antagonists, appearing in Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6, before eventually becoming allies. This new movie would find them begrudgingly working together for reasons we haven’t quite established yet. It’s still super early in the process.

For  those who might be asking why this is happening, consider the following (Thanks, Bill): They’re both mega action stars. The franchise has made tons of money. They want to make more money.  People will pay to see this regardless  of things like plot and whether or not it’s necessary.

That’s not to say this is the end for the Fast and Furious franchise. There’s still plenty of ideas floating in his head, including one set in space…maybe.  “No, the answer is no. We’re not going to space. I mean, never say never. We’re definitely not going to space, but how fun would that be to put Riddick and Dominic Toretto together? It would be hilarious! I think Riddick would like Dom, actually. I think they’d find common ground.”

Hey, you can never rule anything out. In the meantime, catch The Fate of the Furious currently in theaters busting box office records left and right.
