#AnywhereButTarget Boycott Re-Ignited to Protest Target’s Trans-Friendly Bathroom Policies

Some folks just need to reiterate just how ignorant their opinions are, I guess.

Conservatives have re-ignited a boycott targeting, uh, Target, in an effort to protest Target’s stance on the “bathroom debate.” This boycott isn’t exactly new, as it was announced a while back this summer. But given the fact that we’re about to enter into the busiest shopping season of the year, it seems conservatives want to reiterate just how ignorant their opinions are–opinions that are undoubtedly bolstered by the election.

The boycott, hashtagged #AnywhereButTarget, encourages shoppers to shop elsewhere for the holidays. Religious watchdog group 2nd Vote has a website dedicated to the boycott. On the website, they write:

Not only has Target publicly advertised that its stores’ gender specific facilities—changing rooms and bathrooms—are open to all comers, regardless of biological sex, but Target has also stood by the policy, despite falling revenues.

It’s time to make Target understand that there are consequences for supporting a radical movement that is determined to redefine marriage, gender, and, ultimately, the 1st Amendment.

As we’ve mentioned before, Target is already investing $20 million into the creation of more gender neutral bathrooms in its stores across the state. As well, their policy explicitly allows trans and non-binary people to use the restroom of their choice (i.e., the correct restroom). This stirred up anti-trans sentiment amongst conservatives who, in the seemingly unending saga of anti-trans legislation, worked to pass bills essentially prohibiting trans people from using the restroom. After all, I can personally say as a trans woman, I don’t want to be forced to walk into the men’s room. There’s no way that ends well for me, I’m just saying.

Honestly, though, if 2nd Vote wants to go ahead and tell everyone which businesses they’re boycotting because of their stances on LGBTQIA rights, that’ll help me out, cause I’m all about supporting businesses that do the right thing.
