Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? Still on screens everywhere, even after all these years, because you never left and you’re always right around the next corner. For whatever reason, the central conceit of four mystery-solving teens and their dog (who can sort of talk, but not exactly) has been rebooted, adapted, and re-done tons and tons and tons of times since its inception in 1969.
The latest iteration on the concept will come in the form of a full-length animated movie, put together by Warner Bros., with Dax Shepard and Tony Cervone at the helm. Shepard may still be better known as a comedy actor rather than a director at this point, but he did just direct CHiPS for Warner Bros. Meanwhile, Cervone is an old hand at directing and producing animated features, having shipped multiple Scooby-Doo and Tom & Jerry animated projects.
Animated features take a very long time to make, so don’t expect to see this come out for a while. THR reports that it’s penciled in for release on September 21, 2018. That’s two whole years away! Sigh.
If you really want to check out a cool Scooby-Doo show right away, the 2010 Mystery Incorporated reboot is all streaming on Netflix now, and it’s a really fun watch! The two live-action movies are on Netflix, too, but those are a whole lot weirder, so you might want to invite over some friends to heckle the screen with you if you intend to watch ’em.
