Remember Powerless, that Office-style show from DC Comics and NBC? The half-hour comedy just got a series order, and released some pictures showing off its intriguing cast.
The series reportedly focuses on the character of Emily Locke, played by Vanessa Hudgens. An insurance adjuster at one of “the worst insurance companies in America,” Emily specializes in insurance for bystanders impacted by the collateral damage of superhero fights. In Powerless‘ pilot, she stands up to DC Comics hero Crimson Fox, and becomes hailed as a local hero. Here’s a synopsis, via Entertainment Weekly:
It’s when [Hudgens’ character] stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult ‘hero’ in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.
Powerless also stars Danny Pudi (Community) as Emily’s best friend, Alan Tudyk as her self-obsessed boss, and Christina Kirk. Ben Queen (A to Z) will write and produce, and the series is set to premiere in the fall.
Personally, I’m pretty pumped to see what Powerless has in store—after the destructive grimdarkness of Batman v Superman, there’s something beautiful about a DC show focused on the laypeople who have to clean up superheroes’ messes. (Batman: Why did you say that name? Emily: *Jim Halpert-stares into the camera*.)
