Durex Makes a Compelling Case For the Condom Emoji

Recommended Videos

Why isn’t there a condom emoji? It would certainly add a cute-but-firm “safety first!” tone to sexting. Or at least, that’s what Durex thinks, as they’re advocating for the addition of a condom emoji in a surprisingly heartwarming campaign — in which they also point out that World AIDS Day is coming up on December 1st. Safety, indeed.

In their video, Durex also manages to keep gender out of frame, choosing instead to focus on the beauty of genitalia metaphors by way of emojis. I’m talkin’ donuts, hot dogs, eggplants, and a tube of lipstick in between two basketballs, which … yeah.

I can already predict how conservative parents everywhere would react if the condom emoji started showing up on phones (why can’t they just tell their kids it’s a balloon or something?) — but if you agree that it’s worth fighting the stigma about safe sex, go voice your thoughts via the #CondomEmoji hashtag.

Next up: an emoji of a birth control pill pack? A diaphragm? … A tampon?
