Lawrence Kasdan, Writer Behind Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens to Retire After Han Solo Movie

Recommended Videos

Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote some of the best Star Wars movies of all time (Empire Strikes BackReturn of the Jedi) and the newest upcoming installment, The Force Awakens, has announced that the forthcoming Han Solo anthology movie will be his Star Wars swan song.

Kasdan made his announcement in Bild, a German movie site. He said, “I did not even want to do this last one anymore, but my family loved the idea.” By the time the Han Solo movie is released, he will have 4 Star Wars scripts under his belt–no small achievement, to be sure, especially considering one of those films is easily the best Star Wars film… so far, at least.

This won’t be the last we hear from Kasdan, however. He’s just stepping away from writing. He’s trying to do what it seems everyone in Hollywood wants to do: direct. Frankly, that’s just fine with me. I’m incredibly excited to see what happens when he takes the helm.
