The absolutely horrifying playable teaser for Silent Hills, P.T., is being pulled off the PlayStation Store on Wednesday, April 29th. So if you were somehow waiting to get the shit scared out of you, move quick. Yeah, uh… we’re totally in line. Right behind you. Uh-huh.
This weekend, the Konami official website posted a notice stating that “the distribution period of ‘P.T. (Playable Teaser)‘ on PlayStation®Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.”
As we’ve mentioned before, P.T. debuted during Gamescom, though at first nobody was sure what it was supposed to be. It just showed up on the PlayStation Store, and as people played, they began to notice clues and little bits that pointed to an overall mystery. After playing for a while and walking through the horror house a few times, you’d be shown that it was all a preview for Silent Hills.
You know, after you stopped screaming.
But apparently the fate of Silent Hills is now just as unknown as its protagonist’s, as rumors currently abound about Konami pulling the plug on the project. According to unconfirmed rumors, Guillermo del Toro, who worked with Hideo Kojima on P.T., said, “It’s not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart.” Kojima’s production company, Kojima Productions, no longer has its logo featured on the P.T. website.
Alas.
If you want to check out P.T. and get a taste of a Silent Hills game that perhaps could have been, hustle over to the PlayStation Store before Wednesday. Go on, give it a shot. Just… maybe don’t play it at night.
[UPDATE] Seems Konami has confirmed that Silent Hills is now officially cancelled. In a statement to Kotaku, Konami said:
Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.
In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
Total bummer. But, still. We’ll always have P.T.
